ROLE: Communications Assistant – Paid Intern

Job Description.

Inspire Action is looking for a full-time applicant who is active, committed, and extremely efficient in assisting the team’s partnerships, advocacy, and communications.

This position provides an opportunity for actively enrolled students in or graduates of a Bachelor’s Degree or similar educational program in Communication, Journalism, Information Studies, Media Studies, Social Science, International Development, or any related field, as well as graduates with a maximum professional experience of one year, to gain the necessary skills to build a foundation for their future professional careers.

The duration of this internship is three (3) months, renewable once, subject to the intern’s performance and funding availability. The incumbent intern will receive a monthly stipend to help with their living expenses. This role does not expect to retain the selected intern in a permanent position inside the organization. Only citizens of the Republic of Ghana will be considered.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a great team player with the necessary interpersonal skills and the ability to remain flexible in their work. The major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Partnerships:

  • Scan for collaboration opportunities (facilitating assessments of customer needs, Inspire Action’s comparative advantages, and partner survey analysis, among others);
  • Monitor and assess humanitarian and development trends and needs to explore opportunities for partnership within Inspire Action’s mandate and existing capability.
  • Ensure the completion of periodic country-related updates such as Country Engagement Opportunity Updates, Newsletters, Monday boards, and SharePoint.
  • Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

Communications:

  • Support all areas of communication, from research and vetting to production and management, presentation and promotion, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Support the implementation of deliverables of corporate communications strategy, including the organization and administration of projects and events, as well as the creation and revision of digital and traditional products;
  • Conduct research and brainstorm options for internal communications and branding.
  • Create, edit, and publish text and multimedia material, such as feature pieces and interviews, on online communication platforms;
  • Attend meetings and interviews to produce internal-facing news pieces.
  • Support the Communications team in organizing events relating to corporate communication strategies and activities;
  • Support the marketing and promotion of corporate branding and communication strategies, as well as related deliverables.
  • Create high-quality visual communication pieces for external and internal communication, including fact sheets, infographics, presentations, newsletters, roll-up banners, and more.
  • Assist with the creation of PowerPoint presentations, posters, business cards, document templates, and other resources.
  • Collaborate with the web developer to ensure that Inspire Action’s website, microsites, and blogs are routinely updated.
  • Manage Inspire Action’s social media handles, marketing, and events, and ensure the organization’s website is constantly updated by generating material (for example, displaying current projects), assisting in raising our profiles and reaching new audiences.
  • Create, edit, and distribute content following the communication strategy that fosters meaningful connections and motivates social media community members to take action;
  • Expand Inspire Action’s networks through social media channels, particularly through engaging and creative storytelling and impact sharing.

Required Skill or Experience

Required:

  • Active enrollment or completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or similar educational program in Communication, Journalism, Information Studies, Media Studies, Social Science,
  • International Development, or any other related discipline;
  • Interest in development, specifically communication and branding.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Strong communication abilities include strong listening skills and empathy, as well as the ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other similar software;
  • Demonstrable experience in media communication, especially social media.
  • Prior experience in the social development sector, including non-governmental organizations, government development agencies, and humanitarian agencies, through assignments or other internships, is a benefit.
  • Ability to adjust to new situations and build and maintain strong working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Self-starter who can recognize and finish jobs with minimal supervision.
  • Integrity means using proper discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters and information.

Desired:

Requirements for this position include online content management, graphic design, photography, and video-making, as well as experience working with a global team.

Learning objectives:

Have a better understanding of the humanitarian industry and systems.
Have studied the humanitarian technical terminology and work procedures;
Understand Inspire Action’s mandate and policies.
Have honed abilities in writing, editing, and generating multimedia coverage of problems and events for both online and offline platforms. Have networked with partners, and national and regional agencies;
Capable of working as part of a multicultural team.

Language requirements: Excellent command of English is necessary. A working understanding of French is preferred but not mandatory.

Personal Attributes

  • Self-starter and a team player willing to work and solve problems with colleagues both in and outside of Ghana.
  • Ability to solve problems and provide creative solutions to obstacles encountered in a local office, as well as assist in the establishment and implementation of new systems and processes.
  • Detail-oriented, having the ability to manage several projects efficiently.
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to adhere to deadlines and timetables.
