Indian ICCR Scholarship Scheme for the Academic Year 2024–25

The High Commission of India in Accra is delighted to inform Ghanaian people about the availability of Indian Council for Cultural Relations Scholarships. These scholarships are open to Ghanaian students who wish to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs at specific Indian universities. Applications are solicited for the school year 2024–25. Scholarships are offered for a wide range of subjects, including engineering, science, agriculture, trade, and economics, as well as the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Ghanaian-interested individuals can apply for the available schemes by submitting their applications online through the A2A Scholarship Portal of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at http://a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in

  1. The Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme (A1203) is a program that provides scholarships.
  2. The Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme (A1209) is available.
  3. The India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme for Africa (G0179)

Prospective students are recommended to access the university/institute website and conduct comprehensive research on the available courses, eligibility requirements, and general information about the institution before submitting their application for admission. Students must verify their eligibility for the course and satisfy the eligibility criteria. In addition to the fundamental qualifications listed in the application form, they must also submit the documents that the universities require.

It is advisable to consistently consult the Universities Handbook/University Grants Commission’s website (www.ugc.ac.in) and each university/institute’s website for information regarding eligibility criteria and other relevant details. Additionally, they are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the living conditions at the University/place.

Prospective applicants must register on this portal using a valid email address, which they will use throughout their academic affiliation with ICCR. All further correspondence regarding the scholarship will be conducted only through this email address.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must meet the specified requirements.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old as of April 30, 2023, and no older than 30 years for undergraduate or postgraduate studies and 45 years for Ph.D. courses.

Take Note

Please be aware that there are a limited number of scholarship opportunities available, and the selection process is based solely on merit. Individuals who are not awarded a scholarship from the High Commission of India in Accra, but are admitted to an Indian university have the option to pursue their further education by financing it themselves.

Applicants can choose to apply to a maximum of 5 universities or institutes according to their preferred order of study. It is important to mention that students pursuing engineering studies are required to have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects in Grades 11 and 12. Mark sheets for both Grade 10 and Grade 12 or an equivalent level of schooling, must be uploaded along with the transcripts in English. If the original documents are not in English, an English translation must be provided for the application to be considered. It is important to know that universities have the authority to reject incomplete applications without further consideration.

Due to the English medium of teaching, applicants must prepare and submit a 500-word essay in English during the admission process to assess their proficiency in the language. In addition, students have the option to provide their TOEFL, IELTS, or other standardized test scores, if they are accessible. If necessary, universities and institutes have the option to conduct online interviews with applicants.

Important Information

ICCR scholarship candidates are required to have Medical Insurance insurance with a minimum coverage of Indian Rupees 500,000, which is equivalent to US$6800 per year. Students have the freedom to get insurance from any insurance provider in India that they like. Alternatively, students coming from their home country can bring international insurance that is recognized in India. The choice of options is left to the students, however, students must possess proper medical insurance to be eligible for ICCR’s scholarship. It is important to note that the ICCR scholarship does not provide medical coverage.

Scholarship recipients should be aware that they will be responsible for covering the costs of laboratory chemicals and other incidental charges for science courses.

Applicants who are selected will receive an Indian visa, and they must upload a copy of the visa on the A2A portal. Upon granting the visa, the High Commission of India in Accra will make the necessary arrangements for the trip route. After purchasing the ticket, the student should upload the travel details on the A2A portal.

Admission shall be granted based on the applicant’s stated desire, to the greatest extent feasible. However, there may arise a situation wherein students are unable to secure admission to their desired universities /institutes due to the restricted availability of seats. Students should be ready to accept admission from any of their top five choices.

The scholarship procedure will adhere to the following timeline:

  • April 4th, 2024: The ICCR A2A Portal has been launched to solicit applications from candidates.
  • May 31, 2024: The deadline for students to submit their applications for the Africa Scholarship Scheme is approaching.
  • June 30, 2024: The deadline for universities to notify students of their admission status is the final day. If the admission is confirmed, the information will be communicated to the missions, and if it is refused, a notification will be sent to the students.
  • July 15, 2024: The deadline for Indian Missions to assign scholarships to students and produce offer letters.
  • July 25, 2024: Deadline for student acceptance
