Exciting Career Opportunity at YOTA

ROLE: Youth Engagement Lead

About Us:

YOTA collaborates with partners to create a just and sustainable world in which all young people have equal opportunities for success. Our objective is to provide African kids with social and economic possibilities to help them escape poverty and alter their lives. Our Agenda for Youth Transformation takes a people-centric approach to youth transformation, which includes increasing youth capabilities to better position them for work and participation in society, expanding opportunities to help youth apply and strengthen those capabilities, and empowering youth to leverage institutional support.

YOTA believes that youth transformation occurs when young people are empowered – via economic self-sufficiency, social change, voice, agency, and service – to make positive change in their own and others’ lives. Although headquartered in Ghana, the organization’s footprints extend throughout Africa, with recent and active experience in Western, Eastern, and Southern Africa.

Purpose of the role:

YOTA is looking for an experienced and dedicated Youth Engagement Lead for the planned USAID-funded Ghana Youth Activity. The programme will provide rural and urban youth in northern Ghana with a variety of long-term opportunities, tools, and support systems that will allow them to improve their livelihoods, increase their ability to contribute as economically and socially productive individuals, promote peace, and become active community members.

As Youth Engagement Lead, you will be in charge of coordinating YOTA’s youth engagement activities throughout the programme. You will serve as the primary point of contact for our key partners. You will be in charge of networking, identifying, and forming partnerships with youth organisations and a variety of stakeholders in the programme region. Your responsibility will be to arrange peer learning activities with young people in northern Ghana, both virtually and in person, as well as digital activities, in conjunction with a varied youth population.

We are searching for someone who is hands-on, motivated by the social impact that a youth-led engagement programme may have, and driven by a desire to highlight the socioeconomic status of youth in northern Ghana using a young-led, cross-sectoral approach.

If you believe that young people have an important role as both targets and agents in local and global development, and you appreciate working in a fast-paced, creative environment, we would want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with key private-sector, government, and civil society actors to create activities that encourage youth participation in decision-making while also improving government services, practices, and policies.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a youth engagement plan, including procedures for working with different youth in northern Ghana, utilising youth-led initiatives.
  • Create youth-led and youth-focused collaborations with local organisations to achieve cross-sectoral, positive youth development results, empowering them to make better life choices and influence policy.
  • Encourage active youth participation and involvement in the program’s success, particularly the voices of hard-to-reach marginalised populations.
  • Manage youth engagement messaging, documentation, and reporting on key programme deliverables.
  • Coordinate young people’s learning and engagement sessions (workshops, group engagements, community meetings, digital activities), volunteering, training and development, and opportunities in consultation with them.
  • Oversee project activities, such as tracking progress towards core indicators and learning objectives and identifying areas for support.
  • Oversee financial planning and expenditures while ensuring timely payments in accordance with donor laws and YOTA’s financial management standards.
  • Ensure that all programme activities benefit from a robust MEL system applied in collaboration with partners, and supervise data collecting and analysis as appropriate.
  • Ensure timely reporting in accordance with donor standards and formats.
  • Facilitate continuous learning across all programme activities and ensure that learning loop outcomes are operationalized throughout the programme.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the project team as they define and achieve team goals as well as individual professional development initiatives.
  • Manage team performance planning and appraisals.
  • Perform other duties as needed, including those that involve work on weekends and holidays, and allow for time off in lieu (TOIL).

  • Knowledge and experience working with national, regional, and global youth engagement policy frameworks, such as youth-led, cross-sectoral approaches and positive youth development.
  • Successful track record of developing, managing, and delivering difficult project objectives in donor-funded technical assistance programmes (high preference for previous USAID-funded project management experience).
  • Successfully established strong working relationships with youth groups, all levels of government, local NGOs, the private sector, and a diverse range of stakeholders to increase young people’s ability to promote social cohesion and mitigate conflict; enhance youth leadership capacity; and strengthen youth advocacy in community decision-making.
  • Proven leadership talents and exceptional management abilities.
