Job Title: Ghana Corporate Bank Head

The County Business Head is a top manager who is in charge of managing the Corporate Banking business to raise money on the capital markets and give strategic advice to clients. This is done in coordination with the Institutional Banking team. The main goal of this job is to make sure that our public and private clients get investment strategies and advisory services without any problems.

The Ghana business is still an important part of the Sub-Saharan Africa Corporate Bank / Emerging Markets BCMA Business. Ghana Corporate Banking Head is a senior professional who is in charge of leading the Corporate Banking franchise, building and managing relationships with clients at the CEO and CFO level and leading the creation and implementation of client solutions across Citi’s product suite (M&A, Capital Markets, Transaction Banking, Markets, etc.) in coordination with the Institutional Banking team.

Responsibilities:

Banking Capital Markets & Advisory

  • To be in charge of and run Citi’s CB business in Ghana
  • To handle Citi’s relationships with its clients in Ghana, including those with the government, financial institutions, and businesses.
  • Keep in close touch with all clients, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghanaian Banking Regulator.
  • Help the CEO of the Cluster run the Ghana business.
  • Develop and track a client-driven plan for franchise growth, and share a vision that takes into account global/regional problems and new market trends.
  • Responsible for managing the overall relationship with clients and offering a wide range of treasury and corporate finance solutions, such as cash management, trade, vendor finance, foreign exchange (FX), general credit, loans, debt capital markets, share repurchase, and interest rate and equity derivatives.
  • Translate Citi’s strategy into a business plan for the Corporate Bank that is effective and efficient, while avoiding problems and keeping a good mix between short-term and long-term goals.
  • In charge of making money and meeting other goals connected to the budget, risk management, and giving out credit.
  • Drive innovation, differentiation, and speed to market, and encourage cross-selling of goods across the whole ICG platform.
  • Partner with the Investment Banking team to plan and carry out one-off deals. Work with key stakeholders, such as Risk and GCM, to allocate capital in a way that is smart, appropriate, and in line with all Citi risk policies.
  • Make sure that client relationships and suggested client solutions meet or exceed internal risk and return standards, such as strict ethical standards and expected future changes in the market.

Lead the Business

  • Making sure that all businesses, product lines, and functions, as well as the relevant Regional CEO, sign off on an annual business plan and that success against that plan is regularly checked.
  • Managing all businesses, product lines, and tasks in the country, either directly or through matrix reporting, as needed.
  • Acting as a single, coordinated face to the local market and the lead Citi representative in the country in front of external stakeholders like clients, regulators, the government, the community, the media, and others, and actively raising Citi’s image.
  • Keeping an eye on all important country and other risk limits and planning country scenarios.
  • Making sure that there is a realistic plan for who will take over key country positions, with at least regular members of the CCC. Together with HR, execute Citi’s talent plan and manage the review and growth of talent across the whole franchise.

Protecting the Franchise

  • As best as he or she can, protect Citi’s image in the country.
  • Making sure that all laws and rules (both local and US) are followed.
  • Making sure that all of the rules about “financial inclusion” are followed.
  • Making sure that all company rules are followed, including ethical standards, corporate governance standards, and requirements for business practices.
  • In charge of managing and coordinating the ties between the government and regulators.
  • Promoting a strong attitude of escalating problems in a timely manner, ethics, compliance, and control.
  • Using suitable control mechanisms to find, evaluate, reduce, communicate, and plan for all kinds of risks.
  • Leading and making sure that the Managers Controls Assessment (MCA) process is used consistently across the business.
  • Taking care of the organization and corporate governance of legal companies based in a country, as well as their reporting to regulators.
  • Lead Citi’s reaction to an event that affects the whole company, like a crisis or disaster. In this case, all business and department heads have to work under the direction of the CCO.

Qualifications:

  • 8–10 years of work history
  • MBA or M.S. from a top school in business, economics, or financial engineering
  • In-depth knowledge advising clients on how to handle debt and capital, preferably in Ghana.
  • Strong Risk skills and track record in product suite (M&A, Capital markets, Trade, Treasury solutions, etc.)
  • Shown skill to find a good balance between internal management and time with clients
  • Compliance issues and regulatory standards (global and local) must have been understood.
  • Proven leadership skills and the brains to build momentum and a plan for multiple products with a wide range of customers and different needs.
  • Shown an intellectual understanding of the industry, the ability to predict and lead the organization through future changes, and the ability to turn an idea into plans that can be carried out.
  • Proven cerebral and problem-solving skills with a practical outlook to make sure that limited resources are used in the best way.
  • Always show that your written and spoken dialogue is clear and concise.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or the equal in work experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
