Tullow Oil is an independent oil and gas company that is well-known and focused on Africa. The Group has stakes in more than 30 exploration and production licenses in 8 African and South American countries.

Tullow Oil is looking for a Rotating Equipment Engineer in Ghana. This person will report to the Maintenance & Integrity Manager.

Job Purpose

This is a specialized job in Critical Rotating Equipment and Reliability Engineering. It gives leadership and direction to Maintenance in terms of equipment reliability and availability.

The RE acts as the Technical Authority for Rotating Equipment and Reliability Analysis.

The RE is in charge of making sure that the FPSO’s systems and equipment work well every day. He or she is also in charge of finding and managing asset reliability risks that could hurt production efficiency. This includes Loss Elimination, Risk Management, and Life Cycle Asset Management, all of which are done through maintenance that is based on risk and reliability.

The RE makes sure that Equipment Maintenance Strategies are always being looked at and improved so that equipment is more reliable and available.

Also, The RE drives the Condition Monitoring program and the change to preventive and predictive maintenance.

The RE promotes a culture of getting rid of mistakes by making sure failures are properly investigated, that root causes are found, and that repairs and maintenance are done well.

The RE develops and tracks key indicators e.g., production loss attributable to reliability, in order to identify and drive improvement opportunities. They make plans to improve the reliability of each piece of equipment based on how important it is and how much it will cost and how much it will help

Key Responsibilities

General

  • Follows the Tullow HSEQ Code of Conduct, Standards, and Procedures so that people and the environment are always safe.
  • Has a duty of care to ensure that all personnel work in a manner that is not harmful to their own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
  • Junior Engineers get advice and technical help from this person.
  • Make sure that all legal and company standards, processes, and procedures are followed.

Critical Equipment Management

  • Identify and monitor the management of critical equipment for possible impact on the technical integrity of the facility and/or production and ensure that all requirements regarding maintenance, inspection and operation are met.
  • Manages the plans and schedules for the major equipment interventions.
  • Serves as the Technical Authority for all issues related to the site’s rotating equipment by helping with troubleshooting, fixing problems that keep happening, identifying and managing critical spares, and taking care of all service contracts in this area.

Engineering for reliability

  • As asked by the Maintenance and Integrity Manager, give a detailed reliability and life cycle cost analysis for units and projects.
  • Build and keep up a reliability database based on data from operations and the industry
  • Lead reliability studies and projects and help with them as needed using Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Owns the RAM model and is in charge of keeping it accurate and up-to-date. Gives assurance that the project team is keeping up with changes when delivering new systems.

Reliability Improvement

  • Create key reliability performance indicators (KPIs), analyze them, and report on them.
  • Use reliability data to develop prioritized equipment reliability improvement programs
  • Facilitate, lead, or join assessment teams whose goal is to improve the reliability, use, and operating efficiency of assets.
  • Use the results of RAM, RCM, FMECA, and RCA to tell Equipment owners (discipline engineering leads) what needs to be changed to make Equipment Maintenance Strategies work better.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades and changes to equipment to make it more reliable and reduce operating problems and maintenance costs.
  • Do an analysis of the weaknesses and come up with plans to fix them.

Getting rid of mistakes

  • Lead investigations into equipment failure and make sure the right Root Cause Analysis is done (RCA)
  • Analyze the data on preventive maintenance and start corrective work.

Operational Support

  • Work with Operations and Maintenance staff to find and fix problems with equipment as needed.
  • Work as a key member of a technical team and be known as the technical expert on reliability.
  • As a consultant to Operations and Engineering about the capabilities of equipment and facilities and ways to make them better, you will help develop the scope of work and fix important equipment.
  • Help new projects with maintainability, reliability, and operability
  • Spares and Materials tell Maintenance and Supply Chain what critical spares they need and how much stock they should have.
  • Training: Take part in making and giving Reliability training

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college or university in engineering or a related field.
  • +7 years of work experience in a relevant engineering field after getting a degree.
  • Experience in the oil and gas business offshore is preferred.
  • Experience with running production facilities and keeping them in good shape.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience (FSE level required) in the operation, maintenance, and management of rotating equipment is needed. This includes aeroderivative gas turbine packages (LM2500), centrifugal and reciprocating gas compressors, multi-stage high-pressure centrifugal pumps (V&H), steam turbines, gearboxes, and 28mw generator packages.
  • Expert working knowledge of basic reliability processes and tools, such as RAM (critical), RCM, FMECA, Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Predictive Maintenance Tools, such as Vibration Analysis, Tribology, thermal imaging, and acoustic imaging.
  • Experience and skills that can be shown to be good in the following areas:
    • Techniques like 5 Whys and Fault Tree Reliability Centered Maintenance can be used to figure out what went wrong (RCM)
    • Reliability, Availability and Maintainability modelling.
    • FMECA stands for Failure Mode, Effect, and Cause Analysis (LCCA)
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems at the user level
  • It would be good to know about and use lean.
