Texas Christian University admissions with full funding for 2024–25

You should begin your journey in graduate school by enrolling in the Department of Mathematics at TCU. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program in mathematics is designed to prepare students to become highly qualified mathematics teachers at the secondary and two-year college levels.

Students are exposed to the basic philosophy of mathematics as well as specific approaches for teaching mathematics through the program, which provides a comprehensive understanding of mathematics and its history, teaches problem-solving abilities, and teaches various techniques for teaching mathematics.

The degree program covers a total of nine to twelve hours of graduate education courses in addition to twenty-four to twenty-seven hours of graduate mathematics classes. When it comes to meeting the requirements of full-time teachers, the class sizes are kept small, and the course schedules are designed to be as flexible as possible.

Concerning Texas Christian University

The founding of TCU dates back to 1869, when brothers Addison and Randolph Clark had the idea to establish a university where both sexes could pursue a classical education and character development.

The Clarks were both minister-teachers in Fort Worth. The brothers set out for the vast grassland of neighboring Thorp Spring in order to remove their project from the distractions of “Hell’s Half Acre,” where the cattle industry and the impending new railroad had sparked a noisy culture. One of the first coeducational colleges west of the Mississippi, AddRan Male and Female College, was founded with just 13 students.

Out of the 21 universities connected by a continuous covenant with the Christian Church, TCU is the biggest (Disciples of Christ). The vision statement of the Disciples, a protestant organization having Presbyterian and Baptist traditions, speaks of “true community, deep Christian spirituality, and a passion for justice.”

This ongoing partnership is in favor of an educational strategy that respects each person’s religious identity while placing a high focus on scholarship, reason, and intellectual inquiry. Present-day TCU students represent over sixty different religious traditions and beliefs.

Accepted MAT students help in the Department of Mathematics by teaching (no more than one course each semester) and tutoring in the mathematics clinic. They also get free tuition and a stipend of $10,000 per year (as of 2023).

General Eligibility Requirements

Master’s Residence Requirement

Residency in general is not required. Program prerequisites are listed in the individual degree lists.

Credit Transfer

Transferring limited graduate credit from another recognized college or university to a TCU master’s program will be taken into consideration. When submitting an application for admission, a formal request for transfer credit should be made together with the necessary transcripts.

Such credit must be residence credit—not extension or correspondence—and carry at least a “B” grade (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and be pertinent to the student’s program as decided by his or her adviser.

Normally, transfer credit is only recognized for six semester hours, but in exceptional cases, the chair of the main department and the dean of the school or college may approve more hours. However, TCU must provide a minimum of one-third of the credit hours needed for any graduate program or post-baccalaureate professional degree.

An extra master’s degree

• Firstly, graduate students at TCU may apply for a second master’s degree from TCU if they are enrolled in a master’s program at TCU, have already completed one, or received their master’s from an accredited program outside of TCU.
• Secondly, according to the academic dean overseeing the extra master’s degree, the following requirements must be met for a TCU master’s degree to be approved:
• Also, you must fulfill all prerequisites for the additional master’s degree.
• Additionally, approved coursework for the previous master’s degree (or concurrent master’s degree) may be applied for a maximum of nine hours.
• Written petitions for applicable course credit are required.
• The applied course or courses must be verified by official transcripts and have at least a “B” grade (3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
• Credits other than these will be taken into account.
• After matriculation, all credits that apply to the additional master’s degree must be completed within five calendar years.

Transcripts from all college coursework, a resume or CV, three letters of recommendation from instructors, and a personal statement of purpose are all included in the application; GRE test results are advised. International students need to bring extra goods. Applications received after February 1 of the relevant year will also be taken into consideration if all available spots have not been filled for fall admission. The application deadline is February 1 of the relevant year.
