    The college was among the first in the nation to accept female students. From the late 1870s onward, women started to enroll with nondegree status. When the graduate program was founded in 1882, they were officially admitted as graduate students. When the School of Education (now a graduate school) opened in 1914, they were admitted as undergraduates. Women were able to pursue undergraduate degrees in fields other than education thanks to the 1933 establishment of the College of Liberal Arts for Women. The institution did not become completely coeducational until 1974, when the women’s school was combined into the School of Arts and Sciences.

    The Penn GSE scholarships are awarded to both domestic and international students, and there is no application fee.

    A limited number of students who wish to pursue master’s degrees will receive financial aid totaling approximately $1,000.

    Dean’s Scholarship

    Penn GSE is offering a $10,000 Dean’s Scholarship to a select group of fresh master’s applicants. Following their analysis of the admissions application, the faculty will award prizes based on merit. These scholarships are available to students studying in the United States and abroad.

    Candidates must submit their applications by the program’s priority date. The Dean’s Scholarship can be used in conjunction with other Penn GSE financial assistance options. Selection for the Dean’s Scholarship will occur at the time of admission.

    Scholarships for Fulbright Fellows

    Each master’s student accepted to Penn GSE who receives an offer of a Fulbright Fellowship will receive a $25,000 stipend to be used toward graduate studies. This award can be combined with financial aid from organizations that are involved with the Fulbright program. Fulbright recipients need to be cautious when disclosing their identities in graduate applications.
