Study In USA: University of Pennsylvania Scholarships 2024

The University of Pennsylvania offers a few scholarships that are awarded based on financial need, academic excellence, or a combination of both. These awards are administered by the Office of Student Aid, academic colleges, particular campuses, or other administrative bodies.

Every year, the University of Pennsylvania admits a large number of exceptional and intellectually gifted individuals. Scholarship awards differ and are selected based on donor requirements, which consider merit, financial need, or a combination of both, as specified by the particular scholarship program. This post aims to provide you with all the necessary information you may require when applying for the scholarship.

The University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania is a privately owned establishment established in 1740. The university has a current undergraduate enrollment of 9,760 students as of fall 2022. It is located in an urban setting and occupies a campus area of 299 acres. It employs a semester-based academic calendar. The University of Pennsylvania is ranked #6 in the 2024 edition of Best Colleges in the category of National Universities. The cost of tuition and fees amounts to $66,104.

The University of Pennsylvania, situated in Philadelphia, was established by Benjamin Franklin. The Penn Quakers participate in over 25 NCAA Division I sports within the Ivy League, and are renowned for their accomplished basketball and lacrosse teams. Penn has housing options in over 10 College Houses, while a significant number of students choose to reside in the abundant off-campus apartments and houses that are accessible.

Approximately 20% of the student population actively participates in Greek life, which includes roughly 50 fraternities and sororities. The school has a variety of clubs and organizations, including performance groups like the Latin and Ballroom Dance Club and student periodicals like the Penn Political Review. Penn collaborates closely with the West Philadelphia region through community service and advocacy organizations.

Penn University comprises 12 schools, with five providing programs for both undergraduate and graduate students, while the remaining seven only offer graduate courses. Penn’s graduate programs that are well regarded include the Wharton School, School of Education, School of Engineering and Applied Science, Law School, and School of Medicine. Penn’s School of Design and School of Dental Medicine are both renowned graduate programs. Penn, although a secular institution, boasts a robust religious community, including the Hillel for Jewish students, the Penn Newman Catholic Center, and the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Funding opportunities in the form of grants and scholarships.

A comprehensive examination of the diverse origins of financial support for graduate and undergraduate studies, which do not require repayment.

Grants and scholarships for undergraduate students.

Similar to other Ivy League institutions, financial assistance for undergraduate students at Penn is solely determined by demonstrated financial need. The University does not grant scholarships based on academic or athletic excellence. Penn is dedicated to providing you with the necessary financial assistance to cover your demonstrated need for all eight academic semesters through grants.

To qualify for federal assistance, you are required to submit an FAFSA, maintain satisfactory academic performance, have no outstanding debts or defaults on a Federal loan, and not owe any refunds on a Federal Pell Grant or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Typically, international students do not qualify for financial assistance from the federal government.

To qualify for institutional funds, it is necessary to fulfill the following requirements: complete a CSS Profile and the Penn Outside Resource Form (applicable only to first-year students), and provide the necessary federal income tax return information.

Penn Grant

The Penn Grant is a financial aid program that Penn has chosen to allocate toward meeting your financial needs. The Penn Grant is a need-based grant provided by the institution. It is accessible to all traditional undergraduate students and can be received for a maximum of eight academic semesters.

Named Scholarship

A named scholarship is created via the generous contributions of Penn alumni and friends who have decided to assist an undergraduate student in funding their study at Penn. If you have a Named Scholarship included on your financial aid notification, such as the Ben Franklin Endowed Scholarship, it indicates that a benefactor is providing direct financial assistance for your education at Penn. Certain scholarships are awarded based on specific criteria that align with your background, such as your place of origin or chosen field of study. Named scholarships are only awarded based on financial need, and the eligibility requirements are identical to those of the Penn Grant.

Students who are awarded named scholarships are invited to attend a special event during New Student Orientation that provides a more comprehensive explanation of the Named Scholarship Program. Each year, you will be required to compose a concise expression of gratitude to your benefactor. Additionally, you may receive an invitation to attend a yearly gathering, either on campus or in New York City, where you will have the opportunity to personally meet the individual or organization that provided your scholarship.
