Qualification Requirements for Simmons University Kotzen Scholarships

Applicants for the Simmons University Kotzen Scholarships must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Language Requirement: English.
  • Countries eligible: All countries worldwide
  • A minimum score of 28 on the ACT, 1300 on the new SAT, or 1250 on the old SAT (combined Critical Reading and Mathematics sections) is required. It is highly advisable to achieve a score of at least 600 in each part of the SAT.
  • Apply as a first-year student for the autumn term
  • Non-native English speakers are required to provide TOEFL scores as well as SAT or ACT scores.
  • Completion of a college prepared curriculum, which includes taking an intermediate level math course either during or prior to your senior year of high school. Additionally, a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.3 is required.
  • An academic history that includes enrollment in honors, advanced placement (AP), and international baccalaureate (IB) courses, as offered by their high school.

  • Applicants are required to fully fill out and submit both their scholarship application and their admission application to the College no later than December 1.
  • Students are required to send their essays and resumes in either PDF or Word Doc format via email to ugadm@simmons.edu. The subject line of the email should be “Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award application”. The deadline for submission is December 1. Every page of the paper must have the student’s complete name and date of birth.
  • Formal Essay (with a word limit of 300-500 words): Compose an essay delineating your leadership style, providing concrete illustrations to demonstrate the formative events that have shaped you as a leader, and elucidating the type of leader you anticipate becoming at Simmons.
  • Finalists selected for scholarship consideration will need to participate in an on-campus interview, scheduled for February. If you are a prospective applicant from another country who is unable to physically visit the school, an alternative option of doing a Skype interview may be arranged.
