Classification of Scholarships at Northwestern University

1. Alumni Scholarship grant

The scholarship program for tertiary education is an inaugural initiative of the Northwestern Alumni Foundation. Beneficiaries of this program are granted an exemption from paying tuition costs.

To be eligible for the Alumni Scholarship Examination, the applicant must be among the top 15% of their graduating high school class and must get a certification from their principal confirming this. Furthermore, it is necessary to submit a photocopy of Form 138 or a rating card.

4. Founders Scholarship

The Founders Scholars Program was established by Northwestern University in 2007 as a tribute to the nine men who started the institution in 1850.

Eligibility: Each year, a limited number of awards are granted to new students from middle-income families. The award qualifications encompass academic credentials, student essays, recommendations, leadership experience and potential, and intellectual interests. There is no separate application required for this scholarship. Eligibility will be assessed as part of the regular financial assistance review process. Continuation beyond the first year necessitates a yearly evaluation of the overall grade point average (GPA), which must be at least 3.0. Eligibility for recipients is contingent upon being enrolled at least half-time.

5. The Karr Achievement Scholarship

  • Summary: A scholarship program was launched in 2013 by an alumnus of Northwestern University.
  • Eligibility: Students who were accepted for enrollment starting from the 2013-14 academic year and forward.
  • The annual award amount is $2,500.
  • Renewal: The Karr Achievement Scholarship can be extended for a maximum of four years. The recipient is required to maintain a good level of academic achievement.

6. The Chicago Star Scholarship

Summary: Northwestern University developed a scholarship program in 2016 specifically for students who have finished their studies at City Colleges of Chicago and then transferred to Northwestern.

Eligibility: Students who have been accepted for enrollment starting from the 2016-17 academic year and forward. The award amount can reach a maximum of $50,000 each year, depending on Northwestern University’s standards regarding financial aid based on need.
