Concerning Bowling Green State University

With more than 17,000 students, Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is a research-focused institution in Ohio, USA.

In its initial year of operation as a teacher training college, the institution was founded in 1910 with just 304 students enrolled. It wasn’t given full university status until 1935, but it has since expanded significantly to become one of the state’s biggest universities.

The main BGSU campus lies northeast of the tiny town of Bowling Green in northern Ohio, while there is a minor satellite campus called BGSU Firelands located in Huron, Ohio. Over 6,000 students can find housing on the 1,338-acre campus, which is made up of 116 buildings. Other notable amenities include a food court, a 250-seat theater, ballrooms, bars, an ice arena, a golf course, and many more.

More than 200 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs are available at BGSU. These are spread out among eight colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business Administration, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Health and Human Services, the College of Musical Arts, the College of Technology, Architecture, and Applied Engineering, BGSU Firelands, and the Graduate College.

A ghost known as Alice also resides at the university; she haunts two of the theaters there. Although her identity is unknown, several students have reported seeing Alice at concerts, and it has become BGSU practice to leave an empty seat for her at all performances.

Nearly 300 clubs, roughly 40 Greek organizations, and possibly even the SICSIC spirit crew are available for students to join. Six anonymous members of this group, which has existed since the 1940s, covertly post messages and signs on campus in spirit while dressed in Halloween masks and work uniforms.

Student-athletes have the option to participate in recreational play or try out for one of the several varsity teams (BGSU Falcons) that play in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference. Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint, who was selected Bowling Green’s Pi Kappa Alpha Dream Girl before going on to star in Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” and the film “On the Waterfront,” is one of the school’s notable alumni.

Scholarships Available to Future Students

BG Success Scholarships

• Open to all foreign first-year and transfer students
• Half of the non-resident fee, which is currently assessed at $4,000 per academic year
• Only the admission application (by July 15th) is required; no additional application is required.
• Renewable for a maximum of four years and a GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0

Freshman Academic Scholarships

• Scholarships are based on merit, with annual maximums of $8,000 and $1,000.
• Fall admittance only; by May 1st, official test results and supporting documentation must be reported.
• Awards will be communicated to admitted students based on cumulative GPA and official test results from the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, or ACT (authentic transcripts and official test scores will be examined). As long as students turn in a higher exam result by May 1st, amounts can be changed.
• Just first-year students
• Only one application is required for admission; no additional forms are required.
