Imperial acknowledges excellence across all our Faculties and hence permits certain offers to be extended at the Faculty level:
• A Faculty allocation phase will evaluate and rank candidates in Departmental shortlists, extending initial offers to the most promising individuals. Vice Deans of Faculty provide these candidates with rationales for offers before the College Selection Panel.
• The College Selection Panel extends supplementary offers from a designated pool to candidates that fulfill widening participation or other strategic alignment objectives.

Evaluation standards

Candidates are evaluated by the Faculties and College Selection Panel based on the following criteria:

Demonstration of academic excellence:

• Historical academic performance transcripts
• Relative social standing honors recognitions
• Research potential is evidenced by: the candidate’s prior research experience, their enthusiasm for discovery, and the proposed study plan together with its anticipated contributions as outlined in their research proposal.
• The departmental statement also evaluates performance during the interview.
• Successful candidates will obtain official confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD position will be contingent to the candidate obtaining the anticipated prerequisites.

Applicants who are not awarded the scholarship will be immediately considered for a conventional PhD program.
