ETH Zurich provides financial support to outstanding Master’s students through its scholarship program.

The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) provides financial assistance, guidance, and a professional network through the ETH Foundation to support students. The scholarship encompasses all expenses related to tuition and living expenses for the duration of the Master’s degree program.

Requirements

• Exceptional achievement in Bachelor’s degree program (ranked in the top 10% of the program = grade A)

• ESOP is not available to individuals who are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program at ETH Zurich or who already possess a Master’s degree.

Documentation for the application

• The pre-proposal for the Master’s thesis must be independently produced and adhere to established scientific citation conventions.
• Engaging in plagiarism or deliberately spreading false information, whether through negligence or intention, will result in being excluded from the admission process. If such misconduct is detected at a later stage, it may lead to the revocation of the admission and any associated scholarship.
• If your study program does not require references, you are still required to provide the names of two reference individuals (professors) for your ESOP application. These individuals are required to upload a reference letter following email notification from the system.

Amount and duration of the scholarship

• The Excellence Grant/ESOP is a financial award that includes a grant to cover the costs of living and studying (CHF 12,000 per semester) and a waiver of tuition fees.
• The ESOP is granted for the standard term of the Master’s program, which typically spans three or four semesters. This also pertains to the exemption of tuition fees.
• The ESOP can only be initiated by ETH Bachelor students who take a leave of absence.
• The application window will be open from November 1st until November 30th, 2024.
