For master’s programs that begin in the fall of 2024, Uppsala University will award several scholarships to fee-paying applicants.  The Uppsala University Global Scholarships, originally known as the Uppsala IPK Scholarships, are one of these scholarship programs.

About the University of Uppsala

Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is the oldest institution in Sweden. The university’s original curriculum was primarily lecturing in the fields of philosophy, law, and religion. The university ceased operations in 1515, but in 1593, near the end of the century, it resumed.

From then on, the university expanded and added more topics to its curriculum. King Gustaf II Adolf’s significant grants in the 1620s provided additional motivation, resulting in a substantial rise in the student population.

To establish a university in Sweden during the fifteenth century, one needed a papal bull or official permission from the pope. Pope Sixtus IV granted permission to Archbishop Jakob Ulvsson’s application on February 27, 1477, after the latter took the initiative.

Universities and the Church had a tight relationship throughout Europe around the fifteenth century. Consequently, philosophy, law, and theology lectures made up the majority of the curriculum. With the establishment of Uppsala University, Swedish clerics were spared from having to go overseas for their studies. The core of the university was the Faculty of Theology.

At Uppsala University, there are currently around 2,000 PhD students and over 50,000 undergraduate students. Three disciplinary domains make up the university: science and technology, medicine and pharmacy, and the humanities and social sciences. These are further subdivided into nine faculties, which in turn contain about sixty departments.

Qualifications:

• You have to be a citizen of a nation that is not part of the EU, EA, or Switzerland.
• You have to have academic aptitude and a desire to learn in a classroom setting.
• Only the master’s program at Uppsala University that you have selected as a priority—that is, the program that you have ranked highest out of the four programs offered by University Admissions—will be eligible for a Uppsala University Global Scholarship.
• Your application for the Master’s program had to be submitted before the university admissions deadline.
• You need to be eligible for the Master’s program for which you applied. University Admissions must receive the application money and all of your supporting materials before the deadline.

Application guidelines:

To be eligible for Uppsala University Global Scholarships, you must first apply between October 16, 2023, and January 15, 2024, via the universityadmissions.se website for one of Uppsala University’s Master’s programs. You should prioritize the Uppsala University curriculum over all others.

The next step is to fill out an online scholarship application, which must be submitted between January 10 and 22, 2024. The cutoff time is Monday, January 22, 2024, at 23:59 Central European Time (CET).
