Study In Mexico: Mexico Government International Students Merit Scholarships 2024

The Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Mexican Government Scholarship Programme for International Students. The primary objective of this esteemed program is to promote scholastic brilliance and enhance global connections by offering foreign students the chance to pursue advanced education in Mexico.

The scholarships are offered for a range of academic pursuits, encompassing master’s degrees, doctorates, postgraduate research, and academic mobility programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This project highlights Mexico’s dedication to worldwide collaboration and the advancement of highly proficient human resources.

Academic level required for the Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

  • Duration of Undergraduate Mobility Programmes: Maximum of 24 months
  • Postgraduate level Duration of Mobility Programmes: Maximum of 12 months
  • Duration of Master’s Programme: Maximum of 24 months
  • Duration of Doctoral Programme: Maximum of 36 months
  • Postgraduate research stays at the Master’s, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral levels can last for a maximum of 12 months.

Advantages of the Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

The scholarship includes:

  • Enrollment and tuition costs at Mexican higher education schools that are involved.

A regular allowance provided on a monthly basis:

  • The available scholarships include funding for Master’s programs, as well as opportunities for Bachelor’s and Master’s level students to study abroad. Additionally, there is funding available for Master’s level research. The amount of funding provided is MXN 13,202.12N.
  • The funding available for doctorate scholarships and research stays at both the doctoral and postdoctoral levels is MXN 16,502.65N.
  • Health insurance coverage provided by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) commences after a period of six months.
  • Expenses associated with obtaining the Mexican resident visa.
  • International airfare will be provided once the academic program is finished.
  • Transportation services for educational purposes beyond Mexico City.

Eligible Nationalities for the Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

  • This grant is available to both domestic and international students from any nationality.

Requirements for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship Eligibility:

  • All applicants, regardless of their level of study, must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Showcase exceptional academic performance by achieving a minimum average score of 85%.

For both undergraduate and graduate level students:

  • Applicants are required to submit either an acceptance letter from the Mexican University, which must be issued within 60 calendar days, or a letter of introduction from the Mexican University. The letter of introduction should also be issued within 60 calendar days and should include information about the applicant’s current and regular student status, as well as the start and end dates of their studies. Please note that the requirement for a letter of introduction only applies to candidates who reside in Mexico.
  • Applicants are required to provide a letter from their institution confirming that academic credit will be granted for the classes or courses of study to be undertaken in Mexico.
  • If the mobility is conducted in a language other than Spanish and the individual’s native language, the receiving Institution must give a written commitment to offer tutoring in the alternative language. This commitment should identify the language and the name of the tutor.
  • If the candidate is currently enrolled in a Mexican educational institution and pursuing a degree, they must provide a signed copy of their academic transcript issued by the institution.
  • Applicants for graduate level mobilities are required to provide a copy of their previous degree certificate.

For individuals pursuing a Master’s Degree or Doctorate:

  • Applicants are required to submit either an acceptance letter from the Mexican University, which must be issued within 60 calendar days, or a letter of introduction from the Mexican University. The letter of introduction should also be issued within 60 calendar days and should include information about the applicant’s current and regular student status, as well as the start and end dates of their studies. Please note that the requirement for a letter of introduction only applies to candidates residing in Mexico.
  • A copy of your most recent academic qualification;
  • A certified copy of the most recent study certificate issued by the home university. A
  • PhD candidate is not required to exhibit a minimum grade point average;
  • If the candidate is currently enrolled in a Mexican higher education institution and pursuing a degree, they must provide a signed copy of their academic record issued by the institution.
  • If the studies are conducted in a language other than Spanish and the student’s native language, they must give a copy of the communication issued by the receiving institution. This letter should confirm the institution’s commitment to provide tutoring in a different language, indicating the language and the name of the tutor.

Research studies at the graduate level:

  • Please provide a duplicate of your most recent academic qualification, such as a Master’s or PhD degree, if appropriate.
  • A certified copy of the most recent study certificate issued by the home university. A PhD candidate is not required to exhibit a minimum grade point average;
  • The acceptance letter should explicitly state that tutoring will be offered to facilitate the advancement of the research. The application should explicitly specify the advisor who will provide guidance to the applicant, as well as clearly outline the scope and focus of the proposed research.
  • Applicants are required to submit a document from the institution they will be visiting, confirming their commitment to offer tutoring in a language other than Spanish or the applicant’s native language. This document should specify the language and the name of the tutor, if the research stay will be conducted in a different language.

Applicants are required to submit their applications electronically through the Academic Cooperation Management System (SIGCA) located at SIGCA International.
