What are the reasons for studying in Malta?

Malta is a Bilingual Nation

One of the notable benefits of Malta is its bilingual populace, where English and Maltese cohabit harmoniously. Due to Malta’s previous status as a British colony, the majority of Maltese individuals were bilingual during their formative years. One of them is of Maltese descent and the other is of English descent.

While studying in Malta, you have the opportunity to delve into this rich linguistic diversity. It enriches the learning environment by promoting multiculturalism, improving communication, and cultivating a global viewpoint. Given that English is a prominent language, you will encounter no challenges comprehending your coursework or engaging in communication with others. This bilingual characteristic facilitates the elimination of linguistic obstacles and fosters a smooth and uninterrupted learning encounter. Additionally, it will aid in the enhancement of your linguistic abilities.

IELTS is not obligatory.

An important benefit of choosing to study in Malta is the ability to apply for admission without the requirement of an IELTS examination. Despite being an English-speaking country, several universities in Malta do not require the IELTS examination for admission. Consequently, you might be relieved from the stress of studying for the exam and achieving a specific range of scores.

Having a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter exempts you from taking the IELTS exam and allows you to enroll in your selected courses. A Medium of Instruction Letter is a document that confirms that English was the language used for teaching in your previous degree or program. If you choose to substitute the IELTS exam, you have the option to take the TOEFL, Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE), or Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ).

Furthermore, overseas students desiring to pursue studies in Malta without an IELTS score must meet supplementary academic prerequisites. These specific criteria may vary depending on the level and discipline of study. Typically, it involves achieving high academic performance in secondary education, obtaining appropriate qualifications or degrees, composing personal statements, securing letters of recommendation or references, and, if required, engaging in subject-specific interviews.

Educational disparities are acknowledged.

One further noteworthy aspect of studying in Malta is that educational disparities are acknowledged and accommodated. Regardless of the duration of your hiatus following the completion of your most recent accredited degree, you are still eligible to apply for studying in Malta. Year gaps will not pose a problem as long as you meet the minimum score required by the universities in question. Your exceptional academic achievements can serve as an advantage in addressing the educational disparity problem in Malta.

Malta is a member of the Schengen Area.

Are you aware that Malta is a member of the Schengen Area? Upon obtaining your student visa for studying in Malta, you will be granted a Schengen visa, enabling you to travel across 27 European nations. These countries are comprised of Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Finland, Portugal, Spain, and others.

This facility provides you with a worldwide opportunity for exploration, travel, and employment. Having a Schengen Visa grants individuals the privilege of unrestricted movement between Schengen member countries, which is considered a significant benefit. The Schengen Area has established standardized processes for entering and exiting. Consequently, a student is exempt from the obligation to go through border controls in order to travel or reside in any location within this region. In addition, the student who is granted a visa to study in Malta is not required to obtain a visa for each Schengen country they visit.
