CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation collaborated in 2013 to develop the CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship program 2024/2025. Conducting your ground-breaking research endeavor in conjunction with a famous German research institution is an example of independent research. The vast majority of universities even receive a subsidy to help offset the costs of your study!

Financial Security:

There is a generous monthly salary of €2,600 available to postdoctoral fellows for fellowships that run anywhere from six months to twenty-four months.
Experienced Researchers: You will be eligible to receive a considerable salary of €3,100 per month for fellowships that last between six and eighteen months, and you will have the option to divide it into three distinct stays within a period of three years.

For the CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship, the following nationalities are eligible:

Only students from Brazil who are studying abroad are eligible to apply for this grant.
CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowships are open to highly qualified Brazilian postdoctoral researchers working in any subject. The eligibility requirements for these fellowships are simple.
Postdoctoral candidates are required to have finished their doctoral studies within the past four years and have published their work in journals or publishing houses that are subject to international scrutiny.
Researchers with extensive experience are required to have finished their doctoral studies within the past twelve years and have a solid publication record in journals and publishing houses that are under worldwide evaluation.

Prerequisites for the Application:

German nationals are eligible for Brazilian citizenship or permanent residency if they have been living and working in Brazil for a minimum of five years with the intention of remaining there.
Resident in Brazil and has spent at least 12 of the most recent 18 months living in a country other than Germany.
A mentoring agreement and confirmation from a German host institution that research facilities are available are also required.

Language skills:

The natural sciences and engineering demand a strong command of either German or English.
In the fields of medicine, the social sciences, and the humanities, a good command of German is essential for research purposes; otherwise, a command of English is sufficient.

Procedure for Applying for a Research Fellowship from the CAPES-Humboldt Foundation:

Gather your documents:

brief curriculum vitae (no more than two pages)
Outline of the research (no more than five pages)
An exhaustive list of publications, organized in accordance with the format of the sample list
Make a list of the publications that are the most significant to you (refer to the example of the key publications list).
You should provide copies of your most significant publications (if they are not in English, you should submit acceptance letters, summaries, or translations).
Certificate of Doctoral Degree Certificate of German Language Proficiency (if necessary)
(Not Required) For major publications written in languages other than English, acceptance letters from publishers and summaries or translations

Locate a German host and obtain the documents they require:

Your research will require a statement from a researcher at a German academic institution stating that facilities are available and that the researcher is conducting the research.
They are going to provide this information to the application system directly.

Put in your application through the website:

We have provided a link to the application forms on the CAPES website, which contains information.
Please wait to submit your application until you have all of the documents, including those that were uploaded by your host, in your possession.

Closing dates:

As of right now, the application window is open! Between June 3, 2024, and November 29, 2024, you are free to send in your application materials at any moment during that time period.
May 2025 is the month that will see the announcement of the selection decisions. Depending on the circumstances, the beginning of your fellowship could take place anywhere between September 2025 and May 2026.

Date of Selection and Commencement:

Following the submission of your application, you will get confirmation emails from both the Humboldt Foundation and the CAPES Institute.
A committee will evaluate your application and choose fellows based on their findings.
The announcement of the results typically takes place in May of the year before the beginning of your fellowship.
