UEG is currently accepting applications for the esteemed Research Fellowship 2025. This fellowship provides a generous grant of €50,000 to exceptional researchers specializing in the area of digestive illnesses. Two fellowships will be awarded. The 12-month program offers a valuable chance for young scientists to improve their scientific abilities through collaboration with esteemed European principle investigators.

The fellowship is open to both basic and clinical researchers who have just obtained their PhD or are currently undergoing training in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, or surgery. Academic Level for UEG Research Fellowship:

  • The UEG Research Fellowship 2025 offers opportunities to participate in fellowship-level programs.

Advantages of UEG Research Fellowship:

  • The UEG will provide two scholarships, each amounting to €50,000, to two researchers who will have the opportunity to collaborate with a distinguished European principle investigator for a duration of 12 months.

Nationalities eligible for the UEG Research Fellowship:

  • This fellowship is available to students from any country.

Requirements for UEG Research Fellowship Eligibility:

The scholarship is available to researchers from both basic and clinical backgrounds, as well as to graduates with both medical and non-medical degrees. Applicants for the program must meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Join the myUEG team as an Associate
  • These researchers are experts in digestive illnesses based on their proven expertise in clinical or basic research.
  • To be eligible, individuals must have obtained their PhD no more than five years ago or be currently undergoing training in gastroenterology, hepatology, or surgery.
  • Alternatively, they must have finished such training within the past five years. If the individual is the primary caregiver for a child, an additional two years per kid may be added, up to a maximum of four years.
  • not employed in a tenured academic post
  • possess substantial research experience (as indicated by their track record)
  • Possess advanced proficiency in the English language Live in a European country that shares a border with the Mediterranean Sea or in a country that is represented by a UEG National Member Society

In 2025, one fellowship will be awarded to the highest-ranked candidate from an Inclusiveness Target Country, as determined by the completion of specific requirements set for COST Actions. The ultimate authority lies with the Research Committee.

Procedure for Applying for UEG Research Fellowship:

Documents that are necessary or mandatory:

Applicants are required to secure a host Principal Investigator (PI) and submit the following:

  • Proposal for a project including an abstract, background information, objectives, methodology, and rationale for selecting the principal investigator.
  • Curriculum vitae (including publications, H-index, and language skills)
  • Confirmation of support and resources from the host PI
  • Candidate’s letter of motivation (proficiencies, objectives, obstacles)
  • Consent to UEG terms (without additional expenses)
  • Endorsement letter from the residential division
  • Not required or mandatory: Confirmation of childcare arrangements

Evaluation

The Research Committee evaluates applications based on the quality of the project, the potential of the candidate, the influence on their career, previous research experience, motivation, suitability of the principal investigator, place of origin, and overall quality. The committee makes the final pick.

Documentation

  • Both fellows and principal investigators (PIs) submit feedback reports. Fellows are required to disseminate their findings by publishing their results, submitting them to the UEG Journal, presenting at UEG Week, actively participating in the Young GI Lounge, providing recommendations, and producing reports.
