China’s Central South University will offer Silk Road scholarships in 2024. It’s available to international students and is fully funded. Under the grant, students may enroll in Master’s or PhD programs in any of the subjects offered at Central South University. The scholarship application deadline is April 30, 2024.

With great pleasure, Central South University (CSU) announces the opening of the 2024 Silk Road Scholarship Program, which invites outstanding non-Chinese graduates from countries along the Belt and Road to apply for master’s and doctorate programs. The initiative seeks to develop relations between countries along the historic Silk Road by promoting academic achievement and cross-cultural engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding Non-Chinese Graduates with High Academic Achievement, Optimal Health, and a Clean Legal Record.
  • Candidates for master’s degrees are under 35 years old; candidates for doctorates are under 40 years old.
  • No Prior Sponsorship (Declaration Required).

Criteria for Language Proficiency:

  • For programs taught in Chinese, an HSK Level 4 score of 260 or above is required.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 85 or an IELTS score of 6 is required for programs taught in English.

Linguistic Proficiency Exemptions:

  • English or Chinese is the first language or official language.
  • finishing a degree program taught in either English or Chinese.
  • Candidates must show a solid scientific background, innovative skills, and academic background.

How to Apply:

  • Submit an online application using the CSU application portal. (Applicants who do not complete this step will not be considered; it is a MUST step.)
  • Create an account and sign in to the online CSU system for international students. Apply online by logging in, choosing the Chinese Government Scholarship, and submitting it.
  • Apply using the CSC system online. You can access the CSC Online Application at CSC Online Application. Choose the Type B program category. The agency number for Central South University is 10533. Complete the online application, print it, and submit the information.
  • Send Central South University the online application documents. (CSC does not accept materials for applications.)

Application materials

  • Kindly provide the required application materials for the two systems. The necessary application materials consist of:
  • A duplicate of the passport’s home page. Please apply for a new passport before applying if the applicant’s current passport does not match the requirements for validity (that is if it expires before September 2024);
  • The Highest Academic Degree Certificate (notarized photocopy in English or Chinese). Provide the pre-graduate certificate if the applicant is a final-year student in the current degree program.
  • Grade report cards. The graduate school, student management department, or academic affairs office of the attending university will issue and seal these transcripts. They can be in Chinese or English, but if they are in a language other than English, certified English translations must be attached.
  • Language proficiency certifications. Candidates pursuing programs taught in Chinese are required to provide official HSK reports that meet the relevant Chinese proficiency criteria. Candidates for programs taught in English must provide official IELTS or TOEFL results.
  • A suggested study plan. More than 1,000 characters or words must be included in a study plan written in Chinese or English. Please include information about the study’s past background, accomplishments, potential field of study, research goal, etc. The Chinese supervisor of the PhD candidate must sign the proposal.
  • A video self-statement (please describe your training and history in research, as well as your potential and ability in it). The ideal duration for the video is one minute. The video format should be MP4, and its size should not exceed 40MB.

Resume

  • Letters of recommendation. Two reference letters from professors or associate professors (written solely in Chinese or English) must be turned in. These letters will outline the applicant’s goals for their education in China, as well as their comprehensive skill set and projections for future development. The date of issuance needs to fall after October 1, 2023.

  • Details about published publications; optional
  • Copies of the blood test results and the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The applicant must complete all of the tests listed in the Physical Examination Record.pdf. If there is no photo, no completed examination, no stamp, and no signature from the hospital or doctor, the paperwork will be considered invalid. Either Chinese or English must be entered on the form. The test date needs to fall after October 1, 2023. If the student has been accepted into the university, kindly bring the original copy.
  • Report on non-criminal records. After October 1, 2023, the applicant must present a current non-criminal record certificate from the local public security agency.
  • Additional supporting documentation (certificates, awards, etc.).
  • A personal declaration stating that the applicant has not received funding from any other institutions or organizations (see Personal Statement.docx file).

Note: Clear, genuine, and valid supporting papers must be uploaded. Candidates are advised to scan the pertinent documents using a business-grade scanner. Applicants are responsible for any repercussions resulting from uploaded materials that are unclear or unidentified.

  • Students who clear the first review will be contacted and proceed to step 3.

Submit Fee

  • Upon successful completion of the main review, candidates should pay the CNY 500 application and review cost via the CSU unified payment platform, as instructed in the email (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay are accepted);
  • To proceed with the application, please finish it and pay the review cost within ONE WEEK. You won’t be required to pay the charge if you don’t pass the initial evaluation.

Review of Academic Works

Appropriate academic institutions will evaluate candidates in depth to assess their background in science, capacity for original research, and inventiveness.

The students will be reviewed for final admission outcomes based on the materials and application circumstances; please take note of the CSU and CSC online application systems.

Submission of Materials and Publication of Results

  • The university will suggest CSC student lists. CSC will make the final admission decision.
  • The ultimate scholarship type will be indicated in the admission notice that the university sends. Kindly verify your scholarship category according to the admissions notice!
  • Please keep checking your emails and the application system due to the short application period. Every detail will be current on the CSU online application platform. If a message is present, kindly respond promptly.

Registration and Communication

Before July 31, 2024, an electronic admission letter and visa application form will typically be sent. Because of the evaluation process, the precise time is not yet known.

Due to modifications made to the CSC entrance policy, students who receive official admission as recipients of Chinese government scholarships may not do so. For information about the final entrance scholarship, please refer to the entrance notice.

It is not appropriate for CSC students to receive multiple scholarships simultaneously from colleges and the local Chinese government. Once discovered, the student’s CSC eligibility will be revoked, and they will be required to repay any scholarships they have won.

In addition to being disqualified, applicants who knowingly withhold their financial aid will not be permitted to reapply for Chinese government scholarships for three years.

Every year at the beginning of September, registration begins at precisely the time listed on the admission notice. The time frame specified on the admission notice is when students must register. Those who don’t register within the allotted time will have their admissions denied.

Owners of scholarships are not able to alter the university, major, or length of study.

The content and price are non-refundable, regardless of acceptance.

Kindly refrain from concurrently applying to the CSU and CSC scholarship programs.

Review of the Year

Every student who receives a scholarship will have their annual evaluation based on their daily and academic performance in the previous year. If the review is passed, the student will still be eligible for the scholarship. If not, there will be a suspension or cancellation of the scholarship.
