Requirements:

To qualify for consideration for a Dean’s Scholarship, the student must:

  • Applicants must be enrolling for the first time in a thesis or dissertation-based program at the University of Saskatchewan. Students who are transferring from a Master’s to a doctoral program are also eligible, as long as they have not yet registered in their doctoral program by the competition deadline.
  • Applicants are required to possess a minimum admission average of 85% in terms of grade points.
  • It is necessary to provide evidence of research activities through publications in reputable journals or presentations/publications at conferences. At least one publication or one presentation is required.
  • Applicants must commence their graduate program in either January 2022, May 2024, or September 2024.

2. The University of Saskatchewan graduate scholarships.

The University of Saskatchewan Graduate Scholarship (UGS) is available exclusively to students in specific departments. Departments must nominate new and continuing students who are in good academic standing.

The value of the Master’s scholarship is $16,000 per year for a maximum of two years, while the Ph.D. scholarship is worth $20,000 per year for a maximum of three years.

3. Fellowships for Teacher-Scholars pursuing doctoral studies.

The Teacher-Scholar Doctoral Fellowships (TSDF) are given to doctoral students in their 2nd to 5th year of study who have passed their Ph.D. comprehensive exam by August 31st of the year when applications are being reviewed.

  • An undergraduate degree of three years, obtained from an institution that fulfills the requirements stated in the Bologna Declaration, and in a field of study related to the proposed area, will be considered equivalent to an undergraduate honors degree.
  • A minimum cumulative weighted average of 70% (similar to the USask grade system) in the final two years of full-time study, which is approximately comparable to 60 credit units at USask.
  • Proven capacity for autonomous thinking, sophisticated academic pursuits, and scholarly investigation.
  • International applicants and those whose first language is not English may need to provide evidence of their English language skills.

Doctor of Philosophy Degree

  • A Master’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, obtained from a recognized university in an academic discipline that is directly related to the intended area of study.
  • A minimum cumulative weighted average of 70% (similar to the USask grade system) is required for the Master’s degree.
  • Proven aptitude for critical thinking, advanced learning, and investigation.
  • International applicants and those whose first language is not English may need to provide evidence of their English language skills.
