Regarding the scholarship program

The Western Australian (WA) Government allocated $41.2 million in financing for overseas education programs in the 2022-23 Budget. The announcement allocated $2 million over four years for the Western Australian Premier’s University Scholarships Program, also known as the Program.

The Program will be implemented annually for a duration of four years, specifically from 2022-23 to 2025-26. It aims to allocate funds for a maximum of 10 one-year scholarships every year, each valued at $50,000. The objective is to attract two exceptional international students to each of Western Australia’s five institutions.

The universities in Western Australia are Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame (Fremantle Campus), and The University of Western Australia.

Annually, the Program will prioritize the recruitment of fresh students from certain target markets, who will pursue studies in various subjects that are directly connected to the key sectors and industries of Western Australia.

The program’s second round will accept enrolments for Semester 1, 2024, while the third round will accept enrolments for Semester 2, 2024. The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (JTSI) will oversee the creation of the scholarship criteria. However, each University will handle the application, evaluation, and decision process. Students will need to apply directly to the University of their preference.

Requirements for ECU Western Australian Premiers University Scholarship:

To qualify for the WA Premier’s University Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

• Enroll as a new international student residing in the same country where the university is located, commencing a full-time research program at the postgraduate level for a minimum duration of two years. The program will begin in Semester 2 of the year 2024 or any subsequent semester for PhD students.
• Do not possess any previous academic background in Western Australia.
• Fulfill the criteria for an Australian international student visa and be ready to arrive and begin studies in Western Australia during Semester 2, 2024.
• Enroll in a postgraduate program without going through a foundation or English language route program.
• If this scholarship is given, the recipient must be prepared to reject any other scholarships provided by the University, State, or Commonwealth.
• Apply to the University as an international student who will pay the full tuition fees.

Criteria for selection

Applicants will undergo evaluation by their chosen University based on many criteria, which may include, but are not limited to:

• Displaying a notable level of academic excellence as evaluated by the admitting University.

Procedure for Applying

Each participating Western Australian University will oversee the application and decision process for the WA Premier’s University Scholarship. Applicants will submit their applications directly to the University of their choice for enrollment. Evaluation and Communication Procedure

After the selection of successful applicants, each University will notify JTSI about the students who are recommended to receive scholarships. Successful applicants will get notification from the Western Australian Premier, while unsuccessful applicants will be informed by the University they applied to.
