Study Abroad: The World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowships 2025
The World Bank The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships for the year 2025 are currently accepting applications from international students. The scholarship enables participation in the Fellowship level program(s) focused on Banking and Finance, which are taught at The World Bank. The scholarship’s deadline is February 25, 2025.
The World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship:
The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP) by the World Bank pairs aspiring development economics researchers from developing countries with World Bank research economists. This program offers the fellows a chance to engage in rigorous policy-relevant research within the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC), providing them with unique opportunities. The fellows will be accommodated at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. for a duration of 8 months, from September to May each year. During this time, they will work closely with researchers from the World Bank’s Development Impact (DIME) and Development Research Group departments, participating in research projects that are of excellent quality and have direct relevance to policy-making.
Fellows will gain knowledge of contemporary research standards, develop additional abilities in econometrics, and establish connections with prominent academics in their respective fields by collaborating with World Bank DEC researchers and external academic partners from prestigious universities. Participants will have an exclusive chance to engage in demanding research that is relevant to policy-making. This will enable them to broaden their understanding of possible development issues and how their research may effectively tackle concerns in developing countries.
Notable Program Features
Work history:
Participants will be assigned to World Bank projects and will receive direct guidance from World Bank DEC experts. They will also receive training on advanced research methods and technologies and will have the opportunity to collaborate with World Bank operations. Fellows have the opportunity to contribute to DEC’s published work, collaborate with DEC researchers as co-authors, participate in field trips, and directly interact with World Bank clients, depending on the nature of the initiatives.
Enhancing organizational or individual abilities and skills:
Participants will undergo a one-week technical onboarding at the beginning of the program, which will include instruction on reproducible research procedures. Throughout the program, participants will engage in practical training and seminars led by renowned economists, aimed at enhancing their skills. Fellows will improve their capacity to identify, analyze, and articulate significant development policy inquiries through their collaboration with DEC economists.
Dissemination of research findings:
DEC will provide invitations to fellows to author a blog post centered around their study conducted during their fellowship. This presents a chance for them to exhibit their study and their impact on conversations regarding development policy. Annually, the four most outstanding blogs will be featured on DEC’s Let’s Talk Development blog.
