The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana) is a peacebuilding organization that doesn’t make money (NGO). It is a civil society organization with the goal of preventing, resolving, and transforming violent conflicts through the coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national government institutions, and people actively working to build peace in Ghana.
This is done to avoid duplicating efforts and get the most out of resources for better responses to conflict situations. The group wants to help Ghanaian communities build a culture of nonviolence, justice, peace, and social reconciliation that will last.
Job Description
WANEP is a sub-regional non-governmental organization in West Africa. Its goal is to help civil society peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa build ways to work together. It has offices in 15 countries in West Africa. These offices are called National Network Offices.
The Ghana office, which has its National Secretariat in Tamale, is looking for two experienced people to fill the position of a PROJECT FACILITATOR/OFFICER for a project called Trust2Peace that is funded by USAID through the University of Maryland. Those who get the jobs will be based in Wa and Bolgatanga, but they will work in several places in northern Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Facilitator/Officer will work closely with the rest of the project team, partners, and stakeholders to make sure that activities at the community level are carried out well. S/he will help make plans for how the project will be put into action and lead the delivery of interventions at the community and district levels. These interventions include project studies, leading training workshops and dialogue sessions in all project sites in Northern Ghana.
Making project work plans and budgets
- Help the project manager and finance team make work plans and budgets for the coming year.
- Lead the making of plans for project activities, the writing of activities’ terms of reference, and requests for activities in the field.
Implementation, and mobilization of the community and key stakeholders
- Lead, organize, and educate the community about key project strategies to make sure that the community buys into the process and owns the results.
- Community values training workshops need to be set up and run smoothly.
- Help with project studies and dialogues about community cohesion
- Visit all project districts’ communities in the assigned regions on a regular and planned basis.
- Make, grow, and strengthen good connections with stakeholders and beneficiaries.
- Encourage initiatives, other civil society organizations, and public agencies in project districts to collaborate on security, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution.
- Help identify and train facilitators and volunteers to assist with project activities in all districts and communities.
Tracking, evaluating, and giving reports
- Help the project monitor and evaluator create tools and gather field data to improve learning and reporting.
- Then, Write knowledge management tools for stakeholders and the public.
- Also, Submit monthly and activity reports. Help the project manager create quarterly and annual reports on time.
- Accounting: Work with the finance team and project manager to use and account for project activity money on time, correctly, and wisely.
- Lastly, Make sure all project activities on the ground comply with WANEP Ghana’s financial and buying standards and any donor requirements.
Skills or Experience Needed
- Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in social science, peacebuilding, community organization, or a similar field from a college or university that is recognized by the government. Having a master’s degree will be a plus.
- Have at least 5 years of development intervention or community organization experience after national service, especially in peacebuilding, building community cohesion, reducing conflict, gender and security.
- Technically able to run workshops for community groups
- Have good people skills and be open to different ways of doing things to get the most out of your relationships with project stakeholders.
- Show that you have good oral and written communication skills, such as by writing reports and putting together knowledge resources.
- Have knowledge and skills in community mobilization, be culturally sensitive, and be able to work actively with a wide range of stakeholders in northern Ghana.
- Ability to show a high level of professionalism in a peacebuilding, conflict mitigation, and social cohesion environment that changes quickly and is hard to work in.
- Very good at using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and the Internet to find information.
