Occupant of the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics at University of Ghana

The University of Ghana is looking for qualified people to fill the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics, which will be based in the Department of Finance, University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), and the Department of Economics.

  • POSITION: Occupant of the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics
  • ACADEMIC UNIT: Department of Finance, UGBS and Department of Economics
  • REPORTING TO: The Dean, UGBS and the Head, Department of Economics

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

During their time as the Occupant of the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics, the person who gets the job will have to:

  • Do research that has been approved by both the Bank of Ghana and UGBS
  • Work closely with faculty members to create grant-seeking proposals that will drive UGBS and the Department of Economics’ research agenda;
  • Do research that the Bank of Ghana asks for in the areas of financial intermediation, monetary policy, fiscal policy, and financial regulation;
  • Do other research and tasks that are policy-relevant and help the industry grow.
  • Share research results by publishing them in high-quality journals and taking part in local and international conferences, seminars, and symposia;
  • Give talks, policy briefs, and seminars to the public;
  • Set up short courses and training programs for professionals in banking, finance, and policy-related economics;
  • Lead roundtable discussions or brainstorming sessions on new developments in financial intermediation, monetary policy, fiscal policy, and financial regulation in Ghana and around the world.
  • Teach and supervise graduate students in the areas of banking, finance, and economics;
  • Ensure the highest standards of program review and curriculum development in finance and economics;
  • Build a strong finance and economics research group at the University of Ghana Business School and the Department of Economics and lead it
  • Make strong connections between UGBS, the Department of Economics, the Bank of Ghana, and the financial services industry in Ghana.
  • Create case studies and teaching notes on banking, finance, and economics using Ghanaian cases.
  • Give the Bank of Ghana an annual report on what the Chair did through the UGBS and Department of Economics.

Qualifications and Experience

The person who gets the job must:

  • Have professorial status from an academic or research institution or be able to get that status from the business world.
  • Have written a lot in peer-reviewed journals with a high impact factor and a good record of citations
  • Be able to provide academic leadership, especially in teaching, research, and outreach in economics and/or finance, especially in areas like monetary policy, fiscal policy, financial intermediation, and financial regulation.
  • Show evidence of management and administrative leadership and the ability to make the University a friendly place to work.

TENURE

The person who sits in the Chair should be able to do so for at least two years and no more than three.

  • Help with research and office work;
  • A furnished office and support from secretarial and research staff;
  • Appropriate passages to take up duty and leave at the end of the appointment;

  • A vehicle for fieldwork and running the Office of the Chair on a daily basis.
