Mine Operations Superintendent at Newmont Mining Corporation

About This Role:

Direct and lead all Mine Operations staff in the early stages of a project and during the operational phase for all mine pit locations at Ahafo.

Responsibilities

Planning for mine operations

  • Plan and organize the operational needs of mine production, such as drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, water, and project tasks.
  • Plan for and keep an eye on how the law says blast monitoring should be done.
  • Work with engineering to make operating budgets and come up with and write AFE justifications.
  • Work with Mine Maintenance to make sure that plans for replacing equipment are carried out.

Mine Operations Tactical Execution

  • Make solid work plans for Mine Operations and share them with the General Foremen in charge of their areas.
  • Then, Manage and keep an eye on the work plans and make changes as needed.
  • Also, Train the Mine General Foreman and make sure he or she does the job right.
  • Moreover, Work performance problems should be talked about and fixed as soon as possible.
  • Afterward, Make sure that all mining equipment is running well and correctly.
  • Lastly, Check to see if the policies and procedures for Environmental and Social Responsibility are being followed in the Mine Operations area.

Mine Operations Optimization and Continuous Improvement

  • Make monthly reports for management.
  • Keep track of the annual budgets for the section (i.e. Operations and Capital Expenditures). This needs to be taken care of every month.
  • Talk to mine maintenance about operational needs and how the equipment is working.

Underground Integration

  • Keep in touch with Underground about blasting times and other changes.
  • Keep the interaction of low- and high-speed vehicles (LV and HV) with surface and underground equipment safe.
  • Keep overall responsibility for how mining materials are handled.
  • Take care of the interactions between mine waste, ore, and equipment.

Mine Operations Optimization and Continuous Improvement

  • Start and drive goals and processes for continuous improvement to increase the amount of material that can be mined.
  • Find ways to keep getting better and use the ones that work best for Mine Operations activities.
  • Look into other ways to improve production, productivity, safety, and cost savings, and then put these ideas into action.
  • Take part in the Full Potential Steering Committee meetings at Newmont.
  • Manage the capital program for Mine Operations

Formal Qualifications (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering, or an equivalent qualification that meets the requirements of the Minerals and Mining
  • (Safety, Technical, and Health) Regulations, 2012. L.I. 2182 Rule number 37.

Extra Information:

  • At least a Mine Superintendent Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission’s Inspectorate Division.
  • Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission’s Mine Manager Certification (desirable).

Experience:

  • At least 10–12 years of experience in a mining environment, including at least 6–8 years as a supervisor.
  • Prior experience managing and overseeing CAPEX and OPEX budgets for a multinational organization.
  • As a General Foreman, he had experience with operations.

Technological skills:

  • Expertise in analyzing and solving problems.
  • Communication and social skills are at a high level, both in writing and in person.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), MS Project, and SAP.
  • Advanced skills for making and keeping friends.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Advanced skills in keeping track of and managing information.
  • Advanced skills in planning, organizing, and setting priorities.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Good at giving talks and running meetings.
  • Good at talking to people.
  • Strong abilities to coach and teach.
  • Strong skills at negotiating and working out problems.
  • Ability to find and analyze a company’s needs
