ROLE: Director of Programmes
Purpose of Role
To assist the Country Director in the efficient operation of the Ghana Directorate and to deputize for the CD when needed. Contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of the country’s strategy and plans, as well as ensuring that ambitious plans (including operational, governance, financial, and non-financial plans and targets) are met while adhering to all relevant standards and policies.
This senior management position will also actively secure and manage critical relationships, as well as lead on business growth prospects and income generation that are linked with the British Council’s strategy and vision. The post holder will also assist in the implementation of any change programs.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operational management is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the cultural engagement portfolio, including resourcing and money. In charge of any efficiency programs or new delivery models.
- Risk management and compliance: Establishing full compliance with all company principles and standards in the Directorate’s work, including the application of policies such as EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), Child Protection, Health and Safety,
- Environmental Framework Tool, security, and incident management.
- Development/pursuit of a business: Business development and pursuit of cultural involvement, collaboration with SBU colleagues
- Staff Management: Line management of grant-funded program teams and client/co-funded program managers, if needed, in accordance with the British Council brand and values. Coaching and assisting individuals and teams involved in achieving results.
- Providing examples of effective leadership styles and behaviors.
Important Deliveries
- Regional TVET administration and leadership
- Sector/subject expertise in TVET
- TVET strategy and planning in the region
- Relationship management and stakeholder management in regional TVET
Required Qualifications or Experience
- A graduate degree in a relevant subject or work experience equivalent
- Significant program management experience is preferred.
- Qualifications in financial control or program management
- Qualification in project management Experience in client-funded projects, such as FCDO, EU, and World Bank.
Role-Specific Competencies
- Extensive (more than 5 years) experience leading and managing programs or significant projects.
- Experience managing multi-country or large-scale programs that have reached project completion standards and passed audits.
- Experience dealing with a variety of funding sources, as well as knowledge of various program frameworks and compliance regulations.
- Experience working within a consortium arrangement or with other funding partners or sponsors, as well as contract management.
- Extensive expertise in managing senior, complicated client, stakeholder, and partner relationships, as well as reporting needs,
- Experience in risk identification, risk mitigation, risk monitoring, and risk reporting through proper channels.
- Experience designing data collection systems and implementing MEL frameworks
- Experience leading a big, diversified, geographically dispersed project or program team
