Work Description

Important duties

HR Time Split: 45%

  • Develop and drive a high-performing team committed to success together.
  • Develop your team to reach their full potential and coach them to identify their strengths and growth needs.
  • Help fill gaps with recruits.
  • Regionally manage daily attendance.
  • Manage poor performance and escalate disciplinary/grievances matters professionally and swiftly per processes.
  • Together with the Director Personal Banking, set demanding performance goals for your team and provide honest feedback on achievement.
  • Daily, be a role model for your people, do things wholeheartedly, communicate with passion and enthusiasm, and embrace change.

  • Coach and provide team members with feedback to help them reach their potential.
  • Offer continual mentoring and feedback on new projects.
  • Discuss and finalize all staff Performance Development Plans and ratings.
  • Summarize quarterly Performance Development needs and work with the HRBP and Head of Talent to determine and manage Training Needs Analysis.
  • Create and revise annual succession plans for all team members.
  • Identify team skills and provide high-performing colleagues with development chances.
  • Ensuring timely exit interviews for all employee-initiated bank departures and identifying concerns.

Operations Control Time Split: 10%

  • For a successful audit, guarantee operational rigour in all procedures and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with operational risk and rigour requirements in respective area, such as health and safety standards, premises security, etc.
  • KYC, banking code service requirements, fraud prevention, and money laundering laws must be followed.

Important duties

  • Know role-specific group and ARO policies and standards.
  • Understand and manage role-related risks and incidents to support the Group Risk and
  • Control Framework.
  • Communicate Policy-required procedures and controls to relevant peers.
  • Ensure proactive, independent oversight of principal risk performance (including control effectiveness).
  • Monitoring policy compliance and controls.
  • Compliance with Group waiver and dispensation applications and notice of Policy violations as needed
  • Methodical operation Counter management: meet audit, assurance, counter, and loss targets.

Leading Business Time Split: 25%

  • Understand, own, and implement the Absa Bank Ghana RBB mission, brand, and strategy.
  • Develop a strategy or policy to achieve Absa Africa Strategic Priorities.
  • Responsible for all “RBB-owned” support functions as a team within headcount and budget. RBB support includes:
  • Channel management: working with RBB Regional Managers to support, create, and maintain an effective network plan for premises, ATMs, etc. in line with strategy, at optimal costs, and to acceptable standards.
  • Operational rigour and counter management: meet audit, assurance, counter, and loss targets.
  • Support and manage People Development to supply the correct amount of people with the right skills at the right cost to meet business goals.
  • Performance Analysis & Planning: assist the Performance Analysis & Planning Manager in providing timely, consistent, and accurate MI to the RBB business and managing the planning process.
  • Manage the business partner connection with Internal Communications to ensure the correct communications reach the right audience at the right time.
  • Ultimate responsibility for Sales/Service support and company development. Sales conferences, nationwide promotions, and sales recognition programs.
  • To build a network of exceptional internal and external providers for sales and service support, setting terms and SLAs for the business.
  • Work with various functions and business sectors to coordinate sales and service communication via face-to-face and intranet channels.
  • Lead and sponsor RBB change initiatives to minimize disturbance and maximize benefits.
  • Regional RBB clients (Retail, Commercial, SME) should be visited routinely with RMs and segment heads.

15% Teamwork Time Split

  • Create a “one team” culture where back-office staff know they help achieve business goals.
  • Work as a team with the Director Personal Banking, RBB Regional Managers, and RBB Heads.
  • Business as usual at RBB.
  • Clearly communicate RBB business objectives to Regional Managers to prioritize them.

  • Work with the Director of Personal Banking and RBB Regional Managers to agree on strategy/targets and translate them into business objectives to deliver Sales and Service in the Country.
  • Develop segment offerings and marketing to boost performance.
  • Work with the RBB and Absa senior management to support, devise, and maintain an effective network plan covering premises, ATMs, etc. in line with strategy, operating at optimal costs and to acceptable standards.
  • Performance Analysis and Planning: assist the Finance Team in providing timely, consistent, and accurate MI to the RBB and Absa business and managing the planning process.
  • Guide RBB and Absa senior management in translating and prioritizing business objectives.
  • Work with the MD, RBB, and Absa top management to agree on strategy/targets and translate them into business objectives for Ghanaian Sales and Service.
  • Develop segment offerings and marketing to boost performance.
  • Communicate with Absa’s senior stakeholders, understand their needs, and facilitate business feedback.
  • Ultimate responsibility for Sales/Service support and company development. Sales conferences, nationwide promotions, and sales recognition programs.
  • To build a network of exceptional internal and external providers for sales and service support, setting terms and SLAs for the business.

5% Self-Time Split

  • Set performance improvement goals with the team leader.
  • To improve effectiveness, identify strengths and weaknesses and enhance yourself. Visit branches regularly to evaluate operations, customer service, and operational standards.
  • Create a customer-centric culture in the region to improve branch customer service.
  • To boost the district’s brand, cultivate strong ties with key customers, community organizations, and local businesses.
  • Directly supervises Business Banking Group (BBG) Relationship Managers (RMs) sales and service activities in an area.
  • Responsible for regional SME banking revenue and balance sheet growth. Responsible for leading and growing regional branches.

Description of role/person

  • Strengthen partnerships with major RBB clients and groups to boost the bank’s image and visibility.
  • Directly supervises Retail and Business Banking sales and service efforts to ensure good deliveries.
  • Responsible for regional branch and SME banking revenue and balance sheet growth.

Education and Experience Required.

  • Graduate-level business manager with 10 years’ experience.
  • Team management experience.
  • Proven Ghanaian consumer market knowledge.

Skills and knowledge: 6 maximum

  • Understand modern consumer banking trends, especially digital and AI-based solutions.
  • Knowledge of all RBB and Absa services, Local Business, and Corporate.
  • Thorough knowledge of Absa Ghana strategy, operations, and interconnections.
  • Knowledgeable about RBB and Absa risk policies.
  • Knowledge of RBB, Absa, and related business processes.
  • Knowing the RBB and Absa technical support systems.
  • Stay current on competition and local market activity.
