Job Title: Strategic Buyer
Education Required
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in engineering, finance, economics, computer science, supply chain, or any relevant discipline is required as the minimum educational qualification.
Minimum Required Work Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in procurement or hold an equivalent relevant MBA. A background in project management, as well as commercial experience, is an advantage.

The Strategic Buyer would be responsible for designing, validating, communicating, and implementing sourcing strategies for locally controlled categories in accordance with the stated Strategic Sourcing Process tools, templates, and policies. This position is currently open at Nestlé Nigeria in Nigeria. She or he would be responsible for ensuring the effective deployment of new or altered products or services, as well as the management of the Procure to Pay channel and new vendors.
A day in the life;
- utilizing the organization’s tools, templates, and procedures that were developed for the Strategic Sourcing Process in order to define and put into action the strategies for the locally controlled categories at the Market level.
- Performing supplier market, category, and supply risk analysis; creating TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) insight; mapping how the sourcing process and channels work within the locally managed category; identifying improvements to be addressed.
- Preparing and carrying out negotiating events, looking for the best TCO contracts and beneficial commercial arrangements with local suppliers for locally controlled categories.
- ensuring that Nestlé’s corporate principles, rules, and standards, as well as its Procurement Policy, Procurement Standardized Model, Nestlé Supplier Code, Best Practices, and so on, are adhered to.
- Developing working ties with various stakeholders in order to incorporate category plans and results into the price planning and local budgeting processes, if necessary.
- Incorporating components of innovation, renovation, and post-award cost improvement from suppliers into the company’s innovation and renovation processes.
- In collaboration with SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) specialists, take the lead in the planning and frequent contract SLA reviews with suppliers and other functional partners, such as quality, etc.
- Assuring that efficient follow-up procedures for contract management are in place (for example, SAP contracts, purchasing information records, master data, and so on).
- In charge of leading cross-functional projects that will create strategic value in ensuring supply and improving the process of procurement.
What Makes You Successful?
- a proven track record of success in putting multiple sourcing methods into action over an extended period of time (between three and five years).
- Experience as a Sourcing Specialist in at least one and preferably several spend areas, utilizing the Strategic Sourcing Process.
- Risk management, ethical sourcing, and supplier relationship management must all have a solid track record.
- Ability to negotiate and write effectively for business purposes, as well as strong analytic skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication as well as problem-solving abilities.
- Competence in using suitable computer systems and software.
- Having the ability to manage senior-level stakeholders.
- Competence in resolving conflicts and exercising leadership.
- Being able to speak and write in two languages, such as English and French, is referred to as being bilingual.
