Mechanical Technician – Ropes at AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited’s Obuasi Gold Mine is almost done with the redevelopment phase, which will make it more modern, efficient, and long-term profitability. The underground mining operation is fully automated and is set up to mine an average of 5,000 t of ore per day.
As a Mechanical Technician – Ropes, we are looking for an experienced and self-motivated person to join our hardworking team.
ROLE, PURPOSE, AND CONTEXT
The Mechanical Technician – Ropes reports to the Mechanical Supervisor – Winders and is responsible for general mechanical maintenance and repair of mine infrastructure and winding machinery, a statutory inspection of winder ropes, ore transport equipment, and moving materials safely and in accordance with LI2182 (Government of Ghana Law).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Take personal responsibility for his own health and safety and the health and safety of every mine worker whose work is affected by his.
- Then, Follow the Environmental Management Plan for the site.
- Promote a safety culture and always have no tolerance for people who don’t follow the rules.
- Also, Protect and promote safe practices in the workplace that are in line with the law and the work environment principles.
- Testing the rigging to make sure it is safe and reliable
- Attach loads to rigging to hold them up or get them ready to move.
- Moreover, Choose cables, pulleys, and winches based on the weight, size, and number of loads.
- Using chain falls or other tools, you can stop heavy equipment from moving through small openings or tight spaces.
- Additionally, Move suspended loads over, under, or around obstacles by tilting, dipping, and turning them.
- Set up the yarding lines’ ground rigging.
- Set up, level, and secure equipment
- Make, install, and fix rigging, support structures, hoists, and pulling gear.
- Attach pulleys and blocks to things that are fixed in the air, like beams and ceilings.
- Dismantle & store rigging equipment after use
- Do daily inspections of the ropes on the winders and the required maintenance on the ropes according to AGA standards.
- Follow the AGA Standard Operating Procedures for Winder Maintenance and Winder Ropes Recaps every six months.
- Clean the winder houses and supporting shafts when asked.
- Report daily to the Winder/Ropes Supervisor on how the ropes are being checked.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) Part II or equivalent qualification is required
Experience
Five (5) or more years of work in a mechanical trade after an apprenticeship. Taking care of the winder will be a plus.
The Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety, and Technical) Regulation should be known.
Wide fabrication experience.
