POSITION: Senior Commercial Advisor

Tullow Oil is a well-known, African-focused independent oil and gas firm. The Group holds approximately 30 exploration and production licences in eight African and South American nations. Our goal is to create a brighter future through ethical oil and gas development.

Tullow Oil is seeking a Senior Commercial Advisor to provide commercial and analytical support to the S,C&BD function as a whole, with a focus on the Ghana BU. The employment is full-time and headquartered in Accra, Ghana, with hybrid working conditions.

Job Purpose

  • Currently, there is a strong emphasis on commercializing discovered gas within the two fields that Tullow operates, as well as expanding our exploration acreage throughout the country.
  • To guarantee effective delivery, the Senior Commercial Advisor must establish, manage, and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to impact and represent Tullow’s interests and values.
  • The work will also include maintaining current gas sales agreements, doing project analysis, and reviewing existing contracts.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

The successful candidate’s major functions and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Leading commercial gas operations, including the implementation of current gas sales agreements, managing multiple gas to power parties to assure agreement compliance, and successful delivery of gas from the Jubilee and TEN fields.
  • Developing and updating domestic, regional, and international market analysis.
  • Contributions to the drafting and negotiation of the fully termed Gas Sales Agreement and related agreements.
  • Developing and negotiating agreements with the central government and government agencies to acquire access to new acreage.
  • Identify and consider potential initiatives to increase the value of assets.
  • Participation in commercial negotiations, dispute resolution, and the creation of commercial components of asset strategies, such as presentation and advocacy at the senior corporate level internally and with counter-party peers externally.
  • Collaborate with BU teams to offer commercial and economic advice and analysis to the business.
  • Collaborate with the Planning team and, where needed, external consultants and data suppliers to create and implement appropriate project analysis and assessment.
  • Ad hoc commercial support for the Ghana Commercial Manager and the BU executive team.
  • Compliance with the IMS processes. Support internal commercial approval processes as needed (GATE, ATN, peer reviews, risk management).
  • Establishing and strengthening relationships with major JV and government partners, as needed.
  • Working with Country Managers and Representatives to deliver critical meetings (TCM/OCMs)
  • Provide extra commercial support for lenders’ DD processes, structures, and supply chains.

Knowledge/Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, engineering, or science.

Skills/Professional Experience

  • Significant and comprehensive prior experience in working in assets across the complete E&P lifecycle (7+ years), with gas experience preferred.
  • A successful track record of collaborating with joint venture partners and governmental entities.
  • Significant experience in a functional area of E&P, such as commercial, finance, technical, subsurface, or other.
  • Economic modeling in Excel experience is desirable.
  • Has excellent business judgment, initiative, and commercial acumen, sorting through a combination of quantitative and qualitative data to arrive at a solid plan of action.
  • Proven working understanding of petroleum economics, decision-making, and information value analysis, as well as the ability to apply them to make educated decisions.
  • Capable of delivering under pressure, dealing with conflicting priorities, and managing internal and external difficulties.
  • Excellent communicator, with strong presenting skills and superior reporting abilities.
  • Capable of effectively communicating critical messages and decisions at both the senior and working levels.
  • Ability to operate cross-functionally and confidently address topics outside of one’s own area of technical competence, as well as grasp the interrelationships across functional areas and their application to and impact on the business.
  • Capable of recognizing and quantifying business risks, as well as proposing risk mitigation strategies and crucial choices.
  • Seek out and use best practices while maintaining a realistic, fit-for-purpose approach.
