POSITION: Mine Geologist
Job Purpose
- The Mine Geologist is responsible for providing geological guidance to enable profitable ore extraction in the mine.
- Identification, measurement, and classification of a suitable ore blend for plant feed are required. During mining operations, mining engineers make key decisions, get advice, and receive mine operating support.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- In charge of all geological information required for successful ore exploitation and optimization, including the following.
- Grade Control drilling progress (plods, sampling, logging, QA/QC data assay findings and interpretation).
- Examining grade control block models to identify potential upside or risk areas and developing mitigation methods for optimal ore delivery.
- Flitch extraction and dig plans are required for in-pit mining and ore delivery to the crusher. Management of ROMPAD, stocks, and blending plans to satisfy plant feed requirements.
- Through effective monitoring and communication, we can provide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting on grade and tonnes mined, as well as reconcile volumes between survey/dispatch measurement and actual count.
- Reconcile the declared ore mined model, the grade control model, and the resource model.
- Conduct in-pit mapping to aid in geological modeling upgrades and mining.
- Provide critical structural data for geotechnical and blasting support in the pit’s problematic ground sections.
- Aid in the assessment of dilution and ore loss during the reconciliation cycle, Mine-Mill
Required Qualifications or Experience
- Mincom Statutory Certification for Geologist Experience Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Geological Engineering/Earth Science
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mine Geology-related roles.
- A track record of success in gold mining activities.
- Knowledge of advanced/near mine or greenfield projects is advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety management systems.
- Solid understanding of risk management and loss prevention procedures.
- Excellent presentation, organization, and communication abilities.
- Valid Ghanaian driver’s license and driving proficiency
- Capability to manage drilling contractors.
- A track record of supervising geological personnel.
- Excellent computer abilities in Microsoft Office applications and database administration.
- Excellent work Skills in mine geology software such as Ore Controller, Orepro, and Data Mine are highly sought after.
- Knowledge of Leapfrog, Micromine, or MapInfo geological software will be advantageous.
- Strong conceptual skills and the ability to find lateral and practical solutions are required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting abilities are required.
- Leadership and behavioral characteristics
- Knowledge of standards, methods, and procedures that can be applied to work circumstances.
- Excellent team player in cross-functional tasks.
- Results-oriented drive, strong work ethic, and great attention to detail.
- Capability to train and mentor team members, as well as show safety leadership
- Willingness, and aptitude to operate in a hazardous mining environment.
- Willingness and aptitude to operate in a severe mining environment in the field
