The Need
IJM has been a leader in the work to protect people from harm for 25 years. As we grow to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we need a Regional Manager, Accounting & Finance to oversee the work of the Regional Accounting Services team and field office financial activities, such as accounts payable, employee expenses, grant accounting and reporting, and to help with the consolidation of global financial operations.
This job is based in the area around Washington, DC or in Africa and Europe, and it answers to the Global Director of Finance and Accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Make sure that transactions are processed on time and that field office financial transactions are reviewed and uploaded on time so that the global monthly close can be done on time.
- Equip the Regional Accounting Services and other field office finance teams by giving them technical accounting advice, training, tools, and templates that allow them to use IJM’s financial policies and procedures to account for and create reliable financial data and reports.
- Make sure that the accounting and financial management needs of the region are met by the ERP tools used by the region.
- Support the management of limited awards to make sure they follow donor rules and that accurate accounting is done and that IJM managers and donors get their reports on time.
- Make sure that the books of accounts and schedules to ledger accounts are reconciled correctly and on time to help IJM with its yearly audits.
Requirements:
- Preferably an advanced degree in accounting or finance or a CPA.
- At least five years of experience as an accountant, auditor, or similar job, with at least three of those years spent working for a foreign non-profit;
- At least two years’ experience as a boss is recommended;
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and general journal notes, as well as the exchange and translation of foreign currency;
- Knowledge and experience with the rules for getting grants from the US government (2 CFR 200) and from other private and foreign organizations;
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and/or other similar tools and an intermediate to advanced level of skill with it;
- Experience with online financial and accounting tools (Workday and QuickBooks experience is preferred);
- Ability to interact and work well with people from different backgrounds and fields;
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness and results of strategies and actions in an accurate and objective way and make the necessary changes;
- Experience teaching people one-on-one or in small groups;
- Ability to stay friendly, professional, and loving even when there is a disagreement or fight at work;
- Ability to act like a helper and make sure that our customers do well; and
- Ability to move around the world, especially to places with few resources.
