ROLE: Field Office Specialist

The Government of Ghana and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are implementing the EU Food Security Response in Northern Ghana (GCP/GHA/040/EC) project (2023-2026) to address the current and future food security crisis. Over three agricultural seasons, the project will support 6 000 maize farmers to produce 18 000 Mt of maize, 2 400 millet farmers to produce 5,184 Mt of millet, and 4 200 sorghum farmers to produce 8 517 Mt of sorghum in targeted districts. Farmers, notably women and youth, and value chain actors along the groundnut, soybean, and vegetable (tomato) value chains would be assisted with capacity and access to post-harvest technology, including climate change adaptation.
An integrated approach to sustainable food production and food system resilience is more vital than ever. Crop-specific, agro-ecological systems and methodologies will be promoted to sustain maize, millet, sorghum, soyabean, peanut, tomato, poultry, and piggery value chains. In selected project locations, direct agricultural inputs, support for climate-adapted agricultural practices, improved grain storage technologies, post-harvest training, organic fertilizer use, solar-powered irrigation solutions, and other climate-sensitive and sustainable agrotechnologies, integrated pests and diseases management, and access to
Report Lines
The Field Office Specialist will work closely with the National Project Coordinator and Technical Committee, the FAO Representative to Ghana, the Technical Adviser, and the Assistant FAOR (Head of Programmes).
Technical Focus
Coordinate field activities and support Ghana’s Country Programming Framework.
Tasks and Duties
- In collaboration with the Technical Adviser, manage FAO’s Northern Ghana office.
- Manage field office operations and FAO vehicle and office equipment safety, security, and maintenance.
- Coordinate field operations, evaluate their status, and advise remedial actions in accordance with project monitoring and evaluation standards.
- Maintain good cooperation with Northern Ghanaian local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other civil society institutions to conduct FAO initiatives.
- Write interim and final narrative reports and project performance analyses.
- Coordinate with FAO’s Communication Officer to promote FAO’s operations and distribute donor- and FAO-compliant visibility materials.
- Promote Ghana’s Country Programming Framework (CPF) Priorities such “Sustainable Natural Resource Management for a Safe, Secure, and Productive Environment” and “Resilient Livelihoods for reduced Vulnerability and Rural Poverty”.

Minimum Needed
- Qualifications: University degree in project management, business, or public
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of project management experience, preferably in agriculture
- Working knowledge of English (level C)
- National of Ghana

- Experience in many locations, especially in field positions, is desirable.
- Extent and relevance of office/programme/project management expertise in small-, medium-, and large-scale offices or projects at country and community levels, including intricate administrative, operational, and financial procedures.
- Knowledge and experience in project identification, program and project implementation, analysis, planning, and implementation.
- Knowledge of FAO policies and programs is a plus.
- Knowledge of regional field program issues is a plus.
- Experience working with the UN, NGOs, or farmer groups is helpful.
