Criteria for eligibility
Applicants for the United Nations internship program must satisfy one of the following conditions at the time of applying: To qualify, you must satisfy one of the following conditions:
- To be eligible, you must either be currently enrolled in a graduate school program that requires a second university degree or higher, or have completed or be in the final academic year of, a first university degree program that is at least at the Bachelor’s level or equivalent.
- Develop expertise in widely utilized software programs; Applicants for this internship must possess a background in economics, political/international affairs, international relations, business/public administration, law, or a closely connected discipline. Holding proficiency in the transportation sector, sustainable development, and/or climate change will be considered beneficial.
- Demonstrate a confirmed and passionate interest in the work of the United Nations and uphold a personal commitment to the ideals established in the Charter;
- Demonstrate a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with others from various cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to actively understand and embrace different opinions and perspectives.
- Applications are available to individuals of all nationalities, with a specific focus on those from countries that are presently underrepresented or not represented at all in the United Nations. Prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for participating in the Internship Programme.
Responsibilities and Responsibilities of an Intern
The selected intern will work under the supervision of the Secretary of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) and will have the responsibility of performing the following tasks:
- Assist with the research, data analysis, and content preparation for official and unofficial materials of the plenary session;
- Facilitate the invitation of participants and speakers, including influential individuals from governments, other international organizations, and the private sector;
- Contribute to the organization of side events involving high-ranking representatives from UN Member States and senior UN officials;
- Aid in the creation of communication materials and the management of the ITC website and social media presence;
- Occasionally assist with other activities related to the preparation and follow-up of the ITC plenary session and its side events, such as communicating with member state representatives and taking notes;
- Support the implementation of the ITC Decarbonization Strategy;
- Assist with additional tasks in the Director’s office and the Sustainable Transport Division.
The internship will last from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, with a duration of 6 months. To complete the online application, you need to fill out and submit a Cover Note and Personal History Profile.
