Global Communities Invites Job Applications

Global Communities is looking for a Chief of Party (COP) for a five-year, $12 million donor-funded program that will provide rural and urban youth in northern Ghana with a variety of sustainable opportunities, tools, and support systems that will enable them to improve their livelihoods, increase their abilities to contribute as both economically and socially productive individuals, promote peace, and become engaged community members. The activity will focus on the needs of girls, the disabled, and other underserved groups.

The COP will direct and supervise the program’s comprehensive implementation, including technical strategy, financial and operational leadership, and human resources. We are searching for enthusiastic, devoted individuals to assist us in creating the future we envision one of expanded opportunity, where crises give way to resilience, and all people prosper. Ghanaians are especially urged to apply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL

The COP is in charge of overall program implementation, strategic vision, and attainment of outcomes. The COP provides an integrated vision for the program and will lead a team of senior personnel to assure the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of all project outputs and activities. S/he will apply adaptive management techniques to optimize impact and foster innovation. Finally, the COP will be in charge of communicating with the donor, publicly representing the project, and liaising with the government, youth-led and youth-serving organizations, and other institutions/stakeholders about opportunities and issues concerning the socioeconomic status of youth in northern Ghana.

The following are specific responsibilities:

  • Provide program leadership, direction, and supervision, including staff, consultant, and partner oversight, monitoring and evaluation, and program execution.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for the donor, government colleagues, and other important in-country stakeholders.
  • Ensure that technical interventions are carried out in a way that produces concrete and precise results.
  • Conduct regular work plan, budget, and implementation reviews to ensure that project deliverables are met in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Manage team members to ensure that the annual work plan is met.
  • Ensure fiscal integrity and optimize impact by ensuring that project activities are done in accordance with Global Communities, the donor, rules and regulations, local laws, and the requirements of the donor agreement.
  • Lead in adaptive management, peak performance, and innovation facilitation.
  • Oversee the creation and submission of timely activity and financial reports to the donor, effectively and accurately reporting project progress, accomplishments, problems, and funding utilization.
  • As needed and appropriate, represent Global Communities and overall program interests.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, partners, youth networks, and other organizations working on similar or complementary projects to maximize visibility and learning.
  • Ensure that the lessons learned are shared and applied.

Required Qualifications or Experience

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in international development, business, project management, or a closely related field, with at least 8 years of experience implementing multi-sectoral projects with increasing responsibilities and duties in fields such as promoting youth engagement, strengthening economic opportunities for youth, or other aspects of positive youth development. A Master’s degree can be substituted for two years of related experience.
  • It is preferable to have at least three years of experience in a senior management role, such as Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, Project Director, Component Lead, or similar, managing the implementation of ambitious donor-funded programs, particularly those connected to youth empowerment and involvement.
  • Experience in West Africa is preferred, with a preference for recent work in Ghana, with a focus on northern Ghana.
  • Knowledge of the donor, as well as knowledge of the rules and regulations, is necessary.
  • It is preferred if you have demonstrated your ability to convey a common vision among varied partners and stakeholders, as well as your capacity to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of good communication skills, both oral and written, is required to fulfill the agreement’s broad technical and managerial requirements.

COMPETENCIES

  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English is required; proficiency in relevant local languages is encouraged.
  • It is advantageous to be fluent in one or more primary Ghanaian languages.
  • A high degree of interpersonal, technical, and analytical abilities, as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with a diverse spectrum of public and private sector colleagues and other key stakeholders.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Capability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with government officials, civil society organizations, private sector players, implementation partners, international donors, and other stakeholders.
  • A cheerful, team-oriented mindset to complement our welcoming work environment.
