About Us

  • VisionSpring makes inexpensive eyewear available worldwide. Clear vision improves learning, work, safety, civic engagement, and life quality.
  • Social change drives us as a social enterprise. Our sales and revenue targets support our commitment to improve low-income consumers’ functioning, productivity, and income by correcting refractive error with eyeglasses.
  • We are working to fix an optical industry that has failed to deliver 700-year-old eyeglasses to 1.1 billion vision-impaired people, most of whom live on less than $4 a day.
  • We serve low-income customers, not beneficiaries. Customer expectations are high-quality and affordable, and they will spend a limited discretionary budget for instant and tangible vision correction benefits.
  • Selling eyeglasses creates demand and a market. We can serve four times more people per dollar by selling new eyeglasses than by donating recycled ones. For efficient scaling, we must supply each new unit cheaper.
  • Our business uses revenue and social impact indicators. We accomplish our goals using various organizational methods.
  • Scaling effect, not organization, is our goal. A lean crew of doers.
