POSITION: Vegetable Production Officer
Job Description
The Vegetable Production Officer is in charge of directing and managing all parts of vegetable cultivation (tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garden eggs), from area selection to harvesting. This position necessitates a mix of Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs), agrochemical knowledge, managerial abilities, and a thorough understanding of vegetable growing (tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garden eggs).
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conduct agrochemical, seed, and fertilizer trials and demonstrations.
- Investigate production methods and business opportunities for revenue and growth.
- Provide regular reports/updates and recommendations based on research findings to management, stakeholders, and relevant authorities.
- Create and implement crop plans for vegetable cultivation (tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garden eggs), taking into account elements such as farmer problems, climate, soil conditions, farmer population, and market demand.
- Work with farmers, agricultural extension agents (AEAs), and government agencies to achieve your goals.
- To encourage excellent practices in vegetable production (tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garden eggs)
- Hold frequent training sessions and workshops to educate farmers on modern farming throughout the production cycle.
Competence and Characteristics
- Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Interpersonal, organizational, leadership, communication, presentation, and reporting abilities are required.
- Willingness to travel/relocate and the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Inner ambition to excel in assisting farmers and to be the gold standard.
- Creative, versatile, and nimble, with the ability to work cooperatively with a team.
- Sincere in your drive to find solutions.
- Knowledge of the community as well as fluency in the region’s native language are required.
Experience, abilities, and educational credentials
- A bachelor’s degree/Higher National Diploma/Certificate in Agricultural Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, or any other related discipline from a recognized university or college.
- The applicant must have at least two (2) years of experience in the agrochemical business.
- Proven expertise in vegetable cultivation (tomatoes, peppers, onions, garden eggs) or a similar function in agriculture.
- Applicants who have recently finished National Service and have a very good degree or HND in agricultural production are encouraged to apply.
- Must be able to apply pesticides and fertilizers (both dry and liquid).
