Engineering Manager – KMS Underground at AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine, is currently in the last stages of undergoing refurbishment to transform it into a contemporary, effective, and long-term profitable enterprise. The fully automated underground mining operation is intended to mine up to 5,000 t of ore per day on average.
As Engineering Manager – KMS Underground, we are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join our hardworking team.
Role context and purpose
By using operational engineering policies, standards, systems, and procedures, the Engineering Manager – KMS Underground is responsible for developing and implementing Underground Fixed Plant Infrastructure maintenance, including Material Handling System, Rail System, Mine Services Water Distribution, Dewatering, and providing oversight on KMS Winding and Shafts System and other production-related equipment to maximize plant availability in a safe and efficient manner.
The position supports the Phase 3 Obuasi Redevelopment Project delivery. The position is subordinate to the Senior Manager of Engineering.
Accountabilities
- Promote sound safety and health practices in accordance with AngloGold Ashanti’s policies and regulations.
- Establish performance and availability goals for machinery and plants, and commit to achieving them.
- Create and put into practice efficient engineering standards and practices that adhere to OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 regulations.
- Help deliver engineering services in accordance with the standards and specifications of the appropriate governmental agencies.
- Promote operational cost management and keep spending within authorized budgets.
- Improve the knowledge and abilities of direct reports to create a talent pipeline for achieving company goals.
- Examine how the mining and construction workforce applies safety standards and work practices so that safety goals can be controlled and met.
- Promote responsibility among adequately qualified, competent, and experienced individuals.
- Inform the management team of progress and KPI status in a timely way, including any potential cost, schedule, or quality variations.
- Direct a group of engineers in the specification, design, analysis, and verification of novel parts and systems.
- Execute corporate initiatives throughout all spheres of influence, such as asset management plans, our way of working, operational effectiveness, etc.
- Work together with your fellow managers to create maintenance plans and strategies.
- Supervise the Technical Query (TQ) and Requests for Information (RFI) processes, and examine and accept the necessary technical and non-technical documentation.
- Develop a strategy and a set of procedures to keep mining operations on track and to monitor all important intermediate milestones.
- Establish standards to ensure that the engineering and maintenance team’s work on process control and operational technology meets the equipment’s operational requirements and is performed at the lowest possible cost.
- Create a segmented budget that supports the goals and tactics of the business.
- Ensure that the budget is changed and cost impacts in the accountability area are assessed and authorized.
Necessary Education & Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Possessing a master’s degree in management is advantageous.
Experience
- A mechanical, electrical, and maintenance engineer with ten or more years of relevant experience in the upkeep of underground fixed plant and infrastructure, including winder and shaft systems, dewatering, and material handling
- Working knowledge in managing maintenance and repair contracts (MARC)
- Understanding of the SAP PM module; financial, commercial, and project management through work experience and education.
Legal Requirements
- The Ghana Mining Commission’s Engineering Manager’s Certificate of Competence is required.
- Professional Engineer Certified by a Necessary Certification Body
