Requirements for Scholarship Qualifications
Colgate is considerate of the needs of all applicants, both domestic and foreign. Regardless of whether they applied for financial aid or not, Colgate will admit our most deserving candidates. Colgate provides 100% need-based financial aid to all accepted students, based on their demonstrated financial need.
This policy applies to all students, including those who would require a complete financial package. International applicants must submit the CSS profile by the application deadline to be eligible for financial aid. Colgate provides overseas applicants for those providing the CSS Profile, which will pose a substantial financial barrier with CSS Profile fee waiver codes.
Students can email admission@colgate.edu to seek a price waiver code for the CSS profile once their application has been submitted to Colgate and processed by the office.
The application deadlines (Early Decision I: Nov. 15; Early Decision II: Feb. 1; Regular Decision: Jan. 15) and this request deadline are the same. The CSS profile cannot be accepted on paper or in PDF format by the financial aid office.
Academic Resources and Submission Instructions
Students who are currently enrolled in their final year of secondary school are required by Colgate to submit their midyear grades. If available, we need estimated final grades for kids who do not receive midyear grades. In place of the midyear grade requirement, students who had already graduated at the time of application should request that their institutions provide their final transcript.
After finishing secondary school, all students must turn in a final transcript. Your secondary school should ideally submit your transcript electronically via the Coalition on Scoir or the Common Application. Transcripts mailed by your secondary school are also acceptable at Colgate. Colgate does not accept transcripts from students.
When the results of national or international tests are released, students must submit them straight from the testing organization.
Language Proficiency
For students who do not attend a secondary school where English is the predominant language of instruction, scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (DET) are necessary. The official testing organization is required to send these scores. Colgate’s TOEFL school code is 2086.
During orientation, students have brunch together in the Hall of Presidents.
Based on SAT scores, we do not waive the English proficiency requirement. Since there are no minimum score criteria, students are welcome to apply to Colgate regardless of the results of their English proficiency test. The most successful applicants typically receive a composite score of 130 on the Duolingo English Test, a score of seven on the IELTS, or above 100 on the TOEFL iBT.
Furthermore, we encourage our most successful non-English-speaking applicants to submit interviews through InitialView. Vericant is also accepted by Colgate. Kindly make sure that your submission is sent before the deadline of January 15th, or by November 15th for an early decision.
HOW CAN YOU APPLY?
The standard decision and early decision checklists include a complete list of all the materials needed for first-year applicants. Students who are not citizens of the United States are considered international students. Permanent residents, dual citizens, and American citizens residing overseas are not included in this definition.
