Waiver of International Student Fees

A restricted number of overseas fee waivers are available to high-achieving students through overseas programs and global engagement. Waivers of international fees are given out in increments of one unit, with the non-resident component of the total number of units waived.

Who Qualifies?

The majority of overseas students on F-1 visas who will be enrolled in a Sacramento State degree program in the fall and spring of the next academic year are qualified to apply. International students sponsored by the government, exchange students, and students pursuing non-degree programs are not eligible to apply.

What is the number of fee waivers available, and how are they granted?

Every year, a different amount of fee waivers are made available. A competitive committee comprised of Sac State teachers and staff bestows fee waivers.

How much does the fee waiver cost?

Fee waivers are given out in increments of one unit. The tuition reduction of $396 per unit provided is the result of the elimination of the one-unit foreign student charge.

How long is the waiver of international student fees valid?

For one academic year, current international students are exempt from fees. For the spring semester, the fee waiver can only be extended to students who continue to meet the requirements.

Which criteria apply to awards?

When evaluating grant applications, the committee will take the following factors into account:

• Present F-1 student enrolling full-time in a degree program at Sacramento State;
• Academic achievement record (minimum GPA of 3.3);
• A history of documented involvement in extracurricular and community-related activities; additionally,
• A personal statement of one page
