POSITION: Human Resources Manager

Atlantic Lithium Limited is a lithium-focused mineral exploration and development company with an advanced lithium pegmatite asset in Ghana and lithium pegmatite exploration assets in Ghana and Ivory Coast (listed on AIM in the United Kingdom and ASX in Australia).

In Ghana, the Company has outlined the Ewoyaa Lithium Project, a 35.3 Mt at 1.25% Li2O spodumene-rich lithium pegmatite located near essential operating infrastructure. The Company is moving the Project closer to completion. On June 29, 2023, a Definitive Feasibility Study for the Project was announced, suggesting significant commercial viability. The Project is now awaiting permitting before building and manufacturing can begin.

Overview of the Position

As the Human Resources Manager at Atlantic Lithium in Ghana, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating all HR activities across the company’s Ghanaian operations, reporting to the General Manager. This position is critical in ensuring that HR policies and processes match with the Company’s strategic goals and are under local labor regulations. You will serve as a link between the Ghana office and the group’s general manager, People, in Perth, ensuring the company’s HR strategy is cohesive and united.

This position is reserved for Ghanaians under the Minerals and Mining Regulations on Local Content.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Strategic HR Leadership: Create and implement HR strategies to support business goals, such as workforce planning, talent acquisition, and employee development.
  • Talent Management: Oversee the employment process, which includes job ads, interviews, and hiring. Priority should be given to acquiring and keeping excellent people while also encouraging diversity and inclusion. Liaise with social performance leaders to ensure that the company’s local catchment recruitment strategies are followed.
  • Employee Relations: Act as the principal point of contact for HR issues for employees in Ghana. Address and resolve employee complaints in order to maintain a healthy and productive work environment.
  • Performance Management: Implement performance evaluation tools and collaborate with department heads to establish clear performance standards and objectives.
  • Training and Development: Determine training requirements and create programs to improve staff skills and performance. Support the Social Department’s sustainability initiatives in the areas of local talent development and apprenticeship programs.
  • Compliance and Legal: Ensure that all local labor rules and regulations are followed. Keep up-to-date on legal developments and adapt HR practices accordingly. Assist the GM in ensuring compliance with the Minerals Commission’s Local Content rules.
  • Payroll and Benefits Administration: Manage the payroll and benefits processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Expats and Trainers: Manage expats in Ghana to ensure proper integration, knowledge transfer, and compliance with all work permit and localization standards, as well as training requirements.
  • HR Metrics and Reporting: Examine HR metrics for trends and areas for improvement. Report on HR performance and initiatives regularly to the GM, People in Perth.
  • Welfare and Other Amenities: Coordinate with other departments as the GM directs to manage welfare amenities on the ML site, such as camp and housing, medical and recreational facilities, and so forth.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources or a similar discipline is required.
  • A minimum of eight years of HR management experience in mining or a comparable business is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Ghanaian labor laws and regulations.
  • Strong operational understanding of Ghanaian mining law and regulations, as well as statutory reporting requirements and certifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Working alone and collaboratively with a geographically distributed team.
  • HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite proficiency are required.
  • It is necessary to be fluent in English as well as Akan or Fante.

Working Environment

  • This role will be based on the Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Mfantseman Municipality, with frequent travel to Accra.
