Work Description
Safety Advisor is needed in our Safety Health & Security Department.
Job purpose
The Safety Advisor will ensure workplace OHS compliance. The incumbent will advise on safety, conduct risk assessments, and enforce preventative actions in all operating areas to ensure a safe workplace.
Key Duties:
- Implement important parts of the Asanko Safety Management System in Processing, Projects, Mining, Exploration, Administration, and Contractors;
- Create system-integrated behaviour processes;
- Lead operational teams in facilitating and assessing Baseline Risk Assessments (Biannual), WRACs, JHAs, Individual Risk Assessments, and Take 5s, and ensuring compliance when needed;
- Schedule and monitor essential controls using Supervisors.
- Use ICAM to investigate incidents and find root causes;
- Develop and implement safety training, pre-shift information, and other interventions using behaviour-based safety methods;
- Conduct safety audits and inspections and monitor stakeholders for corrective compliance with laws;
- Implement the Asanko contractor management procedure and compliance in Asanko and Contractor operations;
- Safety documentation and record keeping must meet management system criteria;
- Assess stressed employees and notify their supervisor/manager;
- Notify nearby personnel of potential threats and/or evacuation procedures;
- Restrict access to event locations and adjacent regions to minimize health and safety risks;
- Plan further response steps with Incident Commander and local responders;
- Confirm site safety, including PPE, ignition sources, and evacuation;
- Perform additional supervisor-assigned tasks.
Essential Skills or Experience
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or similar qualification from a recognized higher institution;
- National OSHA Examination Board General or recognized body certification is a plus;
- Must hold MINCOM Health and Safety Certificate;
- Must have four years of post-qualification mining or related experience;
- Thorough knowledge of local health and safety laws;
- Knowledge of Safety Management systems;
- Experience with risk management and loss avoidance;
- Strong computer skills—MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
- Excellent writing and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage conflicts, monitor and manage information, plan, organize, and prioritize effectively.
- The ability to think critically and solve difficulties;
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; Devotion to detail;
- Strong skills in information management, planning, organization, and prioritization, as well as computer skills like Microsoft Word and database management.
