Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture of Galiano Gold Inc. and Gold Fields. The Multi-Pit Asanko Gold Mine complex in Ghana’s Ashanti Region serves as the company’s major asset. Galiano Gold Inc. manages and operates the Asanko Gold Mine.

Job Description.

Our Engineering Department has a vacancy for the position of STRUCTURAL, MECHANICAL, PLATEWORKS AND PIPING (SMPP) SUPERVISOR

JOB PURPOSE

The SMPP Supervisor will oversee and manage the structural, mechanical, plateworks, and piping components of the Mine’s development and installations. The incumbent will verify that contractors follow approved plans and designs, as well as corporate procedures and standards, when implementing construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of boilermakers, fabricators, fitters, and welders to complete structural installations and related tasks.
  • Collaborate with designated engineers, architects, and contractors to offer the appropriate technical advice about Approved for Construction (AFC) drawings and designs on the mine;
  • Ensure compliance with the mine’s Quality Control Plan and the Contractor’s Approved
  • Quality Management Plan when executing all projects;
  • Review and give site specification interface and support to ease the job of project contractors;
  • Ensure that all quality control inspections and tests are effectively launched, and that records are well preserved so that they are available when needed.
  • Evaluate all work performed by the company, its contractors, and subcontractors to ensure full compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits on contractors to ensure they maintain a safe working environment and are held accountable for their safety policies.
  • Assist your supervisor in developing a quality control policy and ensuring its implementation throughout all project sites.
  • Prepare construction-specific procedures and work instructions to guide all project activities.
  • Maintain effective processes to ensure that projects are completed within approved budgets and schedules, while also maintaining compliance with company health and safety standards.
  • Perform any other duties as given by the supervisor within the scope of the function.

Required Skill or Experience

Knowledge

  • Must have a degree in mechanical/structural engineering or its equivalent from a recognised university.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of hands-on experience in structural, mechanical, plateworks, and piping activities in a mining or related setting, two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must be computer savvy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management.
  • Must have solid project management abilities.
  • A certified professional engineer with membership in the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) will be an extra benefit.
  • Must have a valid Ghanaian driving licence and the ability to drive in tough terrain.
    Skills
  • Excellent practical understanding and application of engineering design and principles;
  • The ability to apply knowledge of standards, methods, and procedures to work conditions.
  • Capability to achieve tight deadlines and flourish in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Ability to understand and interpret design and plans for electrical projects.
  • Must have well-developed oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate with people at various levels of leadership and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including the capacity to motivate and inspire teams to achieve project goals;
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational abilities.
  • Must be medically fit for the position and working conditions.
