The Global Leadership Challenge 2024 (GLC) encourages 100 young leaders to participate in responsible leadership and address contemporary concerns. GLC is conducting a stringent screening process to identify postgraduate students and young professionals dedicated to fostering positive change globally.

Concerning the Global Leadership Challenge

GLC seeks to enable aspiring leaders to cultivate the wisdom and character essential for impactful leadership in the world. Every exceptional leader is anchored by a resolute foundation of character, demonstrating a steadfast dedication to improving the world. This platform seeks to mentor and motivate emerging leaders, assisting them in developing the skills and values essential for creating a better future for everyone.

GLC assembles global youthful talents and responsible leaders to advocate for a novel leadership paradigm and collaboratively develop action projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals. During the five-day challenge, participants partake in character education, participate in cross-generational dialogues, and formulate diverse action projects that influence their global communities.

What constitutes the Global Leadership Challenge?

The Global Leadership Challenge (GLC) 2024 convenes a varied assembly of young leaders across. It seeks to cultivate competencies in responsible leadership while tackling intricate global issues using design thinking methodologies. The initiative is a partnership between the Oxford Character Project and the St. Gallen Symposium, fostering an enriching atmosphere for participants to acquire knowledge, develop, and lead for the benefit of society.

Emphasis on SDGs at GLC 2024

During the five-day challenge, GLC participants will engage in intergenerational dialogues with senior leaders, learn from a varied cohort of peers, and build a variety of action projects addressing specific concerns related to three Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG 4: Quality Education

SDG 4 aims to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education while fostering lifelong learning opportunities for everyone. The world is presently lagging in delivering universal access to high-quality education, a limited resource for millions worldwide. A viable solution is utilizing technology to improve access to inclusive education. The emergence of technology such as generative AI, remote learning, and online platforms presents novel opportunities to transform the educational process. Conversely, it has also exacerbated inequality.

A significant number of students, particularly in marginalized and low-income regions, lack access to essential infrastructure and skills necessary to leverage these new opportunities. Despite access being available, the quality of education may be variable due to several educational institutions lacking qualified educators, sufficient infrastructure, and appropriate learning resources.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being

SDG 3 aims to guarantee healthy lifestyles and enhance well-being for individuals of all ages.

Notwithstanding recent global advancements in reproductive health, child mortality, and HIV treatment, attaining equitable access to high-quality healthcare remains imperative, as the increase in non-communicable illnesses and maternal mortality rates continues to pose pressing challenges, with scarcity serving as a substantial impediment.

Concepts like Universal Health Coverage continue to be unattainable for significant portions of the population, resulting in millions being driven into poverty each year due to out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Moreover, despite an increase in the global health workforce, shortages continue to exist, especially in places with the greatest illness burden.

SDG 13: Climate Action

SDG 13 urges all stakeholders to undertake immediate measures to address climate change and its effects. Current climate measures are anticipated to diminish emissions; nonetheless, they will be insufficient to maintain a temperature increase below 2°C. The number, intensity, and consequences of extreme weather events, including hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, have escalated in recent years, impacting millions globally.

Due to the grave threats presented by climate change and the absence of sufficient answers, millions globally experience climate anxiety and perceive their acts as inconsequential against the vastness of the situation.

Criteria for Eligibility

Eligibility for the Global Leadership Challenge 2024 requires adherence to the following criteria:

  • Must be a student presently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program, or a young professional aged 21 to 30 years.
  • Have finished your undergraduate education.
  • Exhibit a dedication to responsible leadership by prior extracurricular engagements or professional experiences.
  • Commit to investing five half-days from December 12 to December 16, 2024, for active engagement.
  • Complete participation in the program is essential for obtaining the Certificate of Achievement.
  • The GLC invites applicants from many academic fields and backgrounds.
