The fellowship offers a maximum award of US$25,000, which includes coverage for individual health insurance. It supports a visiting academic appointment that can last for up to one year.

The fellowship also partners with the Baden-Württemberg Fund to support scholars on the topic of liberty and security. This support is provided through visiting research appointments at universities and higher education institutes in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Eligible candidates include teachers, senior scientists, and government intellectuals from any country or academic field who are currently experiencing or have just escaped specific threats to their lives and professional future in their native country or country of permanent residency.

About IIE-SRF Fellowship

The IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Henry Jarecki, Dr. Henry Kaufman, and Mr. Thomas Russo. It was established in response to the commitment of the IIE trustees to provide ongoing assistance to scholars facing difficulties.

Since its establishment in 1919, the IIE has placed great importance on protecting researchers and students who are at risk of harm or extinction. The organization’s dedication to upholding the principles of intellectual freedom and the quest for knowledge is demonstrated by significant historical events such as the Bolshevik Revolution and the Hungarian Uprising.

The IIE-SRF offers fully funded fellowships at the degree level.
