Study In Turkey: Bilkent University International Scholarships 2024

The Turkey Bilkent University International Scholarships for BS, MS, and Ph.D. programs in 2024 are available to international students. The scholarship covers Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. programs in all subjects offered at Bilkent University. The scholarship’s deadline is July 12, 2024

Bilkent University

Bilkent University was established on October 20, 1984, by İhsan Doğramacı (1915 – 2010) by the collaborative decision of the İhsan Doğramacı Education Foundation, the İhsan Doğramacı Science and Research Foundation, and the İhsan Doğramacı Health Foundation. The objective was to establish a hub of exceptional quality in the realm of advanced education and scholarly investigation. The name “Bilkent” reflects the founder’s intention, as it is an abbreviation of “bilim kenti,” which means “city of science and knowledge” in Turkish. The institution is situated in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey.

The founder, who was an academic himself, had previously played a significant role in the creation of several public higher education institutions. He served as the rector of Ankara University, as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Middle East Technical University, and as the founder and first rector of Hacettepe University. His longstanding goal was to create a private, non-profit university renowned for its exceptional education and research.

While studying at Harvard and Washington universities in the United States, he noticed the benefits of privately funded, non-profit research colleges that contribute to the public through higher education. Keeping these considerations in mind, he persistently fought for the Turkish legal system to permit the establishment of such institutions. Eventually, when this aspiration became a reality, he founded Bilkent University based on the same principles.

Bilkent University enrolled its inaugural cohort of students in 1986. In that particular year, the total number of students, including both undergraduate and graduate students, amounted to 386. Presently, the total number of students enrolled in the university amounts to more than 12,000. These students are distributed over ten faculties and three graduate schools.
