2022/2023 UMaT Undergraduate Admission Forms and how to apply. | The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Admission Forms for Undergraduate Studies for the Academic 2022/2023 Year have been released.
University of Mines and Technology admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year is open.
Therefore, the University announces to the general public the sales of admission forms for Degree and Non Degree programs. The sale of admission forms is open to the general public from AprilĀ and ends inĀ DecemberĀ this year.
According to stipulated policy, the University admits applicants from all races and nationalities, irrespective of their religious, cultural, social, or ethnic backgrounds. Also, there is no age limit for admission to any of the approved programs of study at the University. Additionally,Ā Bachelor’s degree programmes take a duration of 8 semesters (4 years) to complete.

Grading System for WASSCE and SSSCE Holders
UMaT uses the WASSCE Grading Systems for the selection of candidates. Aggregate 36 is the minimum entry requirement into all programs. The table below shows this Grading System and the SSSCE equivalent grades.

Applicants with Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates
Applicants must have a GCE Ordinary Level Certificate or its equivalent with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and GCE Advanced Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
Diploma Programme in General Drilling
This is a two-year (4-semester) program run by the Department of Geological Engineering. The programme aims at addressing the needs of middle-level personnel in drilling for mineral/oil exploration, and geotechnical and hydrogeological establishments.
The successful candidate should be competent to take up jobs in the mining, oil, hydrogeological, and allied industries and be able to design, operate, work in a team and supervise drilling operations under all conditions as well as have knowledge in using modern drilling equipment.
An applicant must satisfy any of the following:
- SSCE Holders: Six Passes (A-D) in all subjects which are English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or Applied Electronics.
- WASSCE Holders:
Passes (A1-D7) in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
b. Must possess a minimum of C6 in the following subjects: Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or Applied Electronics. - General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level credits in five (5) subjects including English language, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics; and General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
- GCE Ordinary Level Certificate with credits or SSCE with Passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus experience in the relevant area of study.
- City and Guilds of London Institute Part III Certificate or its equivalent in either Mechanical, Automobile, or Electrical Engineering.
- Holders of Certificate of Proficiency in General Drilling (one year course) from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, or a recognised institution are eligible.

Candidates must possess five passes (A-E) in all subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.

Candidates must have five passes (A-E8) in all subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science.
- Lastly, Applicants with Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates
Also, Candidates must have FIVE passes in all subjects of GCE O Level including English Language, Mathematics, and Science.

Other Applicants
Applicants should be at least 20 years of age and should have any of the following: Diploma in Business Studies (DBS), Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC), National Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI) Certificate, Technician Part I or II Certificate, Basic Education Certificate (BEC) or it’s equivalent. In addition, the candidate must pass an interview conducted at the Department.
NOTE: These are weekend (Saturday and Sunday) programs.
Mature Applicants
Applicants should not be less than 25 years of age and should have SSSCE or GCE āOā Level Certificate. Also, applicants must have credits in Five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and the relevant Science subjects plus experience in the relevant area of study in addition to passing an Entrance Examination and/ or an interview. Mature applicants must also possess birth certificates that are, at least, five (5) years old after the date of issue.
About Fee-Paying Applicants
Students who satisfy UMaTās minimum entry requirement of aggregate 36 but cannot meet the competitive departmental cut-off aggregate can apply for admission as Fee-Paying students provided they have sponsorship to cover their fees throughout their study at UMaT. All fee-paying applicants must select the āFee-Payingā option on their Application Forms.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants from accredited/recognized institutions with equivalent qualifications will be considered for admission.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMMES
BSc and Diploma Programmes
Generally, International candidates must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and two (2) other relevant subjects.

- GCE /IGCSE OāLevel and AāLevel
Applicants under this category must have credits in the following OāLevel and AāLevel subjects:
- OāLevel ā Five (5) credits including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects
- AāLevel ā Credits in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
Applicants with international Baccalaureate (Science and Technical) are eligible to apply. Such applicants must also possess a proficiency certificate in English. However, note that all certificates should be translated into English. Also, equivalences with regard to the certificates would be sought at the National Accreditation Board.
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH
The Certificate Programme in English is a two-semester program aimed at providing knowledge in English for Foreign applicants with the English Language skills necessary to follow a university-level course with English as the medium of instruction.
There are two (2) admissions for this program.
- First Admission ā Classes start in September and end in May.
- Second Admission ā Classes start in January and end in May (Intensive).
Candidates who pass the UMaT Certificate Programme in English will be eligible to apply for admission into the UMaT Diploma and Degree programs.

Afterward, applicants are required to purchase and submit one set of application forms only. Therefore, any applicant who submits more than one set of forms shall be disqualified. Also, any form that is not fully completed at the time of submission shall not be considered.
