POSITION: Communications & Marketing Manager

Purpose

The Communications & Marketing Manager provides strong leadership and establishes strategic communications and marketing goals and processes that are aligned with core ministry functions, national goals, and our global strategy – Our Promise. This includes the creation of key communications resources for donor and public engagement that position the Ministry of World Vision (WV) Ghana in the in-country and international media.

The Communications & Marketing Manager is also responsible for leading external communications on a range of humanitarian and justice issues, directing communications in potential emergency and public relations crisis situations, and managing internal communications processes to advance the strategic goals of WV Ghana in alignment with global marketing and communications strategic objectives of achieving high-quality and sustainable funding, ignite content, ignite global voices, and ignite Increase World Vision Burundi’s overall reputation, trust, and income.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic communication

  • Create and implement a national communications business plan that aligns with the Ignite framework and supports the WV Ghana agenda;
  • Internal and external communication is improved, and KPIs are defined and delivered. Execute and enforce strong monitoring and evaluation of the plan, including the delivery of constantly better results.
  • Produce internal/external communications to guarantee that important communication messages and marketing goods for WV Ghana are expertly developed.
  • Plan and coordinate communications in response to slow- and rapid-onset emergency disaster/relief situations, ensuring that the WV Partnership receives high-quality articles, images, and media interviews from the field.
  • Provides strategic communications assistance to the national director and senior leadership team on business needs in order to enhance reputation and trust.
  • As a communications and organizational leader, provide the National Director with advice, guidance, and support.
  • Ensure that senior and cross-functional teams have a thorough understanding of how communications fit into and enhance organizational strategy, programming, operations, resource acquisition, and support functions.
  • Produce regular and timely feature stories and photographs to share on the World Vision Partnership’s website.
  • Collaborate with print and broadcast media to provide proactive and favorable news coverage for key media opportunities and interviews that promote and defend WV Ghana’s public image and ministry.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Integrated Programs Department to identify significant topics, messages, and communication channels for public advocacy campaigns.

Internal Communications

Prepare to Create a strong internal communications unit that engages staff in strategy, ministry implementation, and impact.

Working with the People & Culture (HR) department, create strong internal communications that engage all WV Ghana employees and support the desired company culture.

Reputation Risk & Influence Management

  • To gain public support for social and policy change, strategically position World Vision in mainstream and social media. Manage reputational risks in a proactive and agile manner, adhering to WVI worldwide standards.
  • Identify national, regional, and international events that provide WVIB’s Senior Leadership with opportunities for networking and influence.
  • Collaborate with the National Director and national team to identify communication obstacles and develop concerns facing WVIB’s country programs.
  • Represent the Country/National Director in NGO and other venues to foster positive relationships and strengthen collaborations with all stakeholders.

Required Skill or Experience

The following can be learned by a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:

  • A university degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, or media.
  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in international communications, media, or journalism.
  • 5 years of experience leading and managing a team
  • Working knowledge of budget management.
  • Deep expertise and experience in strategic communications.
  • Experience with brand management and enhancement.
  • Preferred: Excellent employee relations experience.
  • MA in journalism, communications studies, or a similar area.
  • Professional marketing certification.
  • Excellent writing skills, as well as photographic and/or video skills, are preferred.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking and management skills, as well as the ability to plan and achieve deadlines.
  • General project management experience, with a focus on the creation of different and creative communications projects such as publications, multimedia, websites/pages, photo and video reports, and so on.
  • Donor involvement, internal communications, emergency communications, and some form of advocacy communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication abilities.
  • Capable of traveling and working in the field as required for the position.
  • Strong experience creating and reviewing impact stories, production scripts, and media briefings.
  • Extensive experience in brand management.

Other Competencies and Attributes:

  • Outstanding journalistic (verbal and written), media relations, and media production abilities.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in English (and French is preferred) and relate cross-culturally with a diverse range of multinational constituents.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage strategically while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experience creating and producing a wide range of communication materials, including publications, television and video documentaries, websites, and other media.
  • Demonstrate a diverse portfolio of strategic communications experience and the ability to use public relations to build stronger constituency consensus.
  • Must be a devout Christian capable of overcoming denominational differences.
  • Attend and/or lead daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Working Environment and Conditions:

Work Environment: Office-based with 25% travel to the field.
