ROLE: SSA Non-Communicable Diseases – (2309392)
The scope of the work
The selected staff will be responsible for the following tasks:
Technical assistance and capacity building
- Help make plans, guidelines, and algorithms that are appropriate for carrying out NCD prevention, control, and management services in line with global and regional policies, action plans, strategies, and guidelines.
- Collaborate with the NCD program to increase the capacity of district health teams and primary care professionals to provide comprehensive NCD care services.
- Monitor the implementation of NCD program activities, provide feedback, and help promote effective and efficient implementation.
Coordination and reporting on projects
- Provide technical, administrative, and budgetary assistance for program execution.
- Support coordination and manage technical input from technical working groups established to monitor activity implementation.
- Hold regular program coordination meetings.
Evaluation and monitoring
- Assist the NCD program and other stakeholders in ensuring that the NCD project activities are effectively monitored and evaluated.
- Facilitate project implementation progress reporting to the WCO NCD team and the WHO Representative.
- Support increased surveillance for NCDs and the use of data to inform preventative and control activities.
- Support the implementation of relevant population-based NCD/MH surveys, such as STEPS.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the WHO Country Representative
Temporary staffing requirements
The role requires an epidemiologist who has the following qualifications:
Education
- A medical degree from a recognized university, as well as a master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related health discipline, is required.
- Have a proven track record of performance in a similar job as specified in the scope of work.
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, including clinical management of NCDs.
- Prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases training
- Experience in disease surveillance, survey techniques, stakeholder coordination, and capacity building.
Functional Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and abilities in the prevention and control of NCDs, as well as health promotion
- Competence and skills in assessing and analyzing data to support programs and activities
- Study design, data analysis, and report writing abilities
- Capable of using computer applications such as spreadsheets, MS Word, PowerPoint, and statistical analysis.
- Excellent report-writing abilities
