About the University of Southern Maine Scholarships
There are numerous kinds of scholarships available, each with a wide range of prerequisites. Concerning the University of Southern Maine
In 1971, the University of Maine in Portland (UMP) and Gorham State College of the University of Maine (GSC) merged to form the University of Southern Maine (USM). In 1978, the University of Southern Maine replaced the original name, the University of Portland-Gorham (UMPG).
While Portland Junior Institution and Portland University—which included a law and business school—merged to form the University of Maine in Portland, Gorham State College was founded as Western State Normal School, a teacher’s institution that first opened its doors in 1879. Established in 1988, Lewiston-Auburn College is a division of the University of Southern Maine.
